One of the early stakes’ races on the highly-anticipated Caulfield Cup Day program in Melbourne on Saturday is the Alinghi Stakes 2016 for the fillies and mares, betting tips and the latest odds on the field found below.
Running as Caulfield Race 3 at 1:25pm (AEDT), this season’s $120,000 Listed Crown Lager Alinghi Stakes (1100m) field originally drew 14 final acceptors.
The scratching of Andrassy (12) and Estaminet (4) leaves a dozen to do battle in the set weights plus penalties clash over the short sprint distance.
Updated Alinghi Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au have five at single-figures for the win, narrow favourite being the Andrew Noblet-trained local Super Cash ($4.60).
The Written Tycoon mare made her four-year-old debut at the track and distance on September 24 enjoying a one length win over Mossin’ Around.
She is a previous Black-Type winner, loves the 1100m distance (4-2-1-1) and only needs to improve slightly off her first-up success to go back-to-back in tougher class on Saturday.
Following in the Alinghi Stakes odds are the likes of the returning Peter & Paul Snowden-trained daughter of Hinchinbrook Flippant ($6), Group 1 performed Vezalay ($6.50) drawn ideally in barrier two, local Artie Schiller six-year-old I Love It ($7) and four-year-old Group 3 winner Almighty Girl ($7.50).
So do the best in betting have the winning edge or is there an upset Alinghi Stakes result pending from the likes of the early market mover Chloe In Paris ($14 into $8) with the inside run from barrier one or the Lindsay Park-trained Miss Promiscuity ($11)?
#8 Chloe In Paris ($8)
The money is coming for this Ciaron Maher-trained local Exceed And Excel six-year-old and we’re tipping her before she firms further. Maher could be in for a major race win and an early success with this lightly-raced mare could just be the confidence boost he needs. She hasn’t won since March, but has form at the track and can be forgiven for the first-up last (ninth) in much tougher class when under six lengths off the winner Extreme Choice at Moonee Valley in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m). Damien Oliver retains the ride and against her own kind here she can salute.
#7 Super Cash ($4.60)
Lots to like about the favourite who is also firming in the markets, big race specialist Craig Williams booked to ride the progressive four-year-old second-up. She won by a length with Williams aboard over the same track / distance last time out and this isn’t much tougher. She has Black-Type winning form at Flemington, is a Group 2 performer and if the speed is on she’ll be the one to catch in the lead looking to go all-the-way from the midfield draw.
#6 Vezalay ($6.50)
From gate two exciting jockey Chris Parnham can get Shamardal five-year-old Vezalay into a nice position early. She flies fresh (4-2-1-0) and races for the first time since the eighth when only 3.8 lengths off the winner in Adelaide’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) back in May. If she’s come through the break well is a livewire chance to defend her title after winning this race last year by a half-length.
