Running as Caulfield Race 5 at 2:40pm (AEDT), 13 mares remain in the $150,000 Group 3 Cape Grim Beef Steaks (1200m) field after the early scratching of Forgeress (2).

Heading the updated Cape Grim Beef Steaks odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are the local Mick Price-trained Secret Agenda ($4) coming off a Group 3 How Now Stakes win at the track /distance and Lindsay Park’s market mover Sheidel ($4.20), the latter well-supported having been backed in from a $6.50 opening price.

The other major players in the Cape Grim Beef Steaks betting markets this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival are $6 elects Ravi coming off a Group 3 second in Sydney and Ameristralia both in flying form.

So do the bookies have it right or is there an upset Cape Grim Beef Steaks result pending from the likes of four-year-old Miss Gunpowder ($17) or the returning Group 1 Schweppes Oaks runner-up Silent Sedition ($13)?

#2 Secret Agenda ($4)

She’s drawn wide but the locally-trained favourite is still the one to beat. The four-year-old daughter of Not A Single Doubt is very consistent and was impressive first-up with her 2.25 length Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) win here. She’s got a gun record over the distance (9-2-4-0) and after doing it so easy last time out will be hard to hold off again.

#14 Ameristralia ($6)

Always hard to knock a mare in form and this one has won all three starts this time in including a Benchmark 70 in her first run around Caulfield last Saturday. She is on the quick back-up, but the nicely-bred daughter of Fastnet Rock flew over 1000m for a 2.75 length victory and can handle the extra metres here that she has twice placed second over from three starts. Dwayne Dunn stays on and the barrier is another plus.

#3 Silent Sedition ($13)

Good price on Andrew Noblet’s local War Chant four-year-old who has run out of the money just once in her nine career runs. She hasn’t raced since the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) second in Adelaide from early May and will improve on whatever she does here, but fresh she can finish hard late for a top three run.
