2016 WH Stocks Stakes Tips & Betting Update

There are nine remaining mares in the WH Stocks Stakes 2016 field tonight at Moonee Valley, tips and the latest odds for the Moir Stakes Night showdown are detailed below.

Don't Doubt Mamma

Running as Moonee Valley Race 6 at 9:00pm (AEST), betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au for this year’s weight-for-age $200,000 Group 2 Zoustar Stocks Stakes (1600m) are led by the Lindsay Park-trained Group 1 winner Rising Romance ($2.80).

Since the 2014 ATC Oaks victory by the daughter of Ekraar she has won just one other race, but she is down in class for this in a small field and is the class mare.

Her past six starts were in Group 1 company, including the Memsie Stakes second two back, so there’s money on her to handle a field of her own kind at her first Moonee Valley run.

The big dangers in Stocks Stakes betting include the market mover Don’t Doubt Mamma ($5.50 into $3.80) coming off a win in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) and the Danny O’Brien-trained recent PB Lawrence Stakes winner Miss Rose De Lago ($4.20) out to atone for the last in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes at this track / distance last time out.

So will class prevail for the punters in Rising Romance or is there an upset Stocks Stakes result pending from the likes of Rising Romance’s stablemate Jessy Belle ($10) or Bernardini four-year-old C’est Beau La Vie ($15)?

#10 Don’t Doubt Mamma ($3.80)

The money is coming for Not A Single Doubt four-year-old Don’t Doubt Mamma and we’re happy to follow the punters’ trail and tip back-to-back Group 2 wins from this improver. She took out the Let’s Elope Stakes narrowly over 1400m at Flemington three weeks ago, and with Dwayne Dunn aboard again here dropping from 58kg to 56.5kg she’s in with a chance. This is her first run at the Valley since September last year, and while the straight is definitely more her go, the fourth in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes behind Stay With Me was still strong. Also finished third in the Sandown Guineas that prep over a mile so the distance is a non-issue especially third-up.

#1 Rising Romance ($2.80)

This Group 1 winner is without doubt the deserving favourite, but she doesn’t know how to win! That said, the poor winning strike rate could be due to the face she’s been racing in Group 1 class for a long time and dropping back to a mares’ only Group 2 could be the difference. Gets the run of the race from the draw, was under five lengths off the winner over the mile at Flemington in the Makybe Diva last time out and is in it to win it at weight-for-age.

#3 Jessy Belle ($10)

The other Lindsay Park-trained runner is a definite top three hope from the mid-field barrier after her close fourth to Don’t Doubt Mamma in the Let’s Elope when just over half-a-length beaten. She has been around the Valley eight times for a strong record of three wins, a second and a third and is a dual winner over the mile so will appreciate getting back out over the metres three runs in.
