Just four of the three-year-old fillies engaged to face off in a capacity field at Flemington on Sunday are at single-figures in the latest Edward Manifold Stakes 2016 betting markets, tips for the Turnbull Stakes Day feature detailed below.
Running as Flemington Race 6 at 3:15pm (AEDT), this year’s $200,000 Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) field will run at a capacity 16 starters.
Current favourite in the Edward Manifold Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $5 for the win is Exocet, a lightly-raced Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained daughter of Smart Missile chasing a hat-trick of wins.
She won over 1400m at Caulfield last time out at just her third start and Sunday she is down the Flemington straight for the first time with Dwayne Dunn retaining the ride.
Three of her rivals join her under $10 in the latest Edward Manifold Stakes betting markets with the Phillip Stokes-trained Serenely Discreet ($6.50) stuck with a wide barrier to overcome, market mover Eleonora ($6.50) drawn the opposite end of the field in barrier two and Chipanda ($9) for the Godolphin team.
So will one of the single-figure fancies get the job done or is there a better value Edward Manifold Stakes tip to take with the likes of nicely-bred filly Smart As You Think ($11) and last start winner in the mud at Echuca Classic Diva ($16) pressing genuine claims?
#4 Smart As You Think ($11)
Think the pedigree of this John McArdle-trained So You Think filly will start to stack up and she can break her maiden status at her fifth career run. As a two-year-old she ran third in the Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) at Flemington and she came her closest yet to a win second-up on September 10 only a whisker off the winner in the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m) in Adelaide. Third-up she will be peaking, she’s seen the distance and shown she can handle it and is drawn ideally (barrier eight) for a clean run.
#5 Eleonora ($6.50)
The early money is on this super-consistent Kiwi filly prepared by Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman. Damien Oliver aboard from barrier two are two big ticks for this Makfi filly who is yet to finish out of the money in five career runs. She’s Black-Type placed back home in New Zealand and won her Australian debut on September 16 over 1300m at Geelong on the synthetic track. Odds-on that day and value in Sunday’s markets.
#14 Classic Diva ($16)
Bigger price offered for this improving Robbie Griffiths-trained High Chaparral filly who runs at Flemington and over further than 1200m for the first time. Her recent win over less metres on a mud track suggested she’ll see out the trip, she’s down from 57kg to 55.5kg and drawn well in barrier three with Craig Williams booked to ride this smoky.
