Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The Lindsay Park-trained Zunbaqa is the to-rated filly among the bumper Edward Manifold Stakes 2016 nominations for the Turnbull Stakes Day feature at Flemington Racecourse on Sunday.
One of five Group races spread across the Melbourne card this NRL Grand Final day, the $200,000 Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) attracted 23 three-year-old fillies at nomination stage on Monday.
Sitting top of the Edward Manifold Stakes ballot is the consistent David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Zunbaqa who has won four of her six starts to date.
She was last seen crossing fourth only 1.25 lengths off the winner Detective when taking on the boys at Moonee Valley in the Listed Exford Plate (1400m) on September 10.
As well as the Edward Manifold Stakes, Zunbaqa is entered for three other races across the weekend including Friday’ night’s Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) back at the Valley.
She currently sits at $7.50 in the all-in Edward Manifold Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, the bookies taking no chances with the up-and-comer.
The Lindsay Park stable have a total of three fillies entered for the Edward Manifold Stakes this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival with Zunbaqa joined by last start Pakenham winner on the synthetic track Waterloo Sunset and Von Richter.
Leading the futures Edward Manifold Stakes odds at $4.80 is the Chris Waller-trained Awoke, the Sydney filly also nominated for the $500,000 Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at home at Randwick on Saturday.
The daughter of Rip Van Winkle has run out of the money behind her 2016 Flight Stakes-bound stablemate Foxplay in her two Sydney runs this time in, and is set to head south to avoid a third clash.
Waller also has his Tea Rose Stakes fourth placegetter Sezanne nominated for both the Flight Stakes and Edward Manifold Stakes across two states this weekend.
The other best in the pre-field Edward Manifold Stakes markets meanwhile are the in-form Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Smart Missile filly Exocet ($6) and the Phillip Stokes-trained Serenely Discreet ($7.50).
Exocet has won her past two on the trot in non-black type company including over 1400m by 2.25 lengths from the outside alley (14 of 14) at Caulfield on September 17.
Serenely Discreet is a daughter of Exceed And Excel who is out to atone for her 10th behind Exocet last time out, which followed a 1250m win in Adelaide on September 3.
Looking to further frank the Kiwi form of the season’s three-year-olds in Australia this weekend is the Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman-trained daughter of Makfi Eleonora.
She was placed four times back home in New Zealand before breaking her maiden status on debut down under on September 16 over 1300m at Geelong, a performance she’s out to emulate in tougher company at Flemington on Sunday.
Other notable nominees include So You Think filly Smart As You Think coming off a second in the Listed Morphettville Guineas (1600m) when beaten a whisker, runner-up to Exocet last start Outback Rain and the John O’Shea-trained daughter of Sepoy Chipanda.
