Takedown Returns to Win The Shorts

Four-year-old Takedown has returned to racing with a career-best performance for success in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Takedown was lining up amongst particularly slick company at Randwick today, but did his chances of a boilover no harm when he jumped well and took a good position in transit just off the pace of early leader Ball Of Muscle.

Jockey Tim Clark pressed the Stratum gelding forward rounding onto the final straight and was set the task of running down the brave race leader, but did enough to find the line a head in the clear.

Clark’s ride was instrumental in Takedown returning to winning form in The Shorts, but the hoop was quick to lay the praise on the quality of the horse and the training effort of Gary Moore.

“He’s a big boy, but he’s a lovely and quiet horse. Such a gentleman and a pleasure to do anything with,” Clark said.

“He’s just a complete racehorse, he’s all heart and credit to Gary – he’s done a terrific job with this horse and it’s great to ride a winner for him.

“I didn’t ride him early on, but I’ve ridden him since he had his throat op and it has obviously worked 100%.

“I think Gary has a plan of running here, then go to the Premiere and on to Melbourne.

“We thought third of fourth up when he got to 1400m it would be ideal, but this is just a bonus along the way.”

Takedown has been a strong and consistent performer for Moore throughout his entire racing career so far, and has now posted five wins and as many minors through sixteen starts.

Running third in the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) during The Championships in autumn, Takedown was set on a course through the Brisbane Winter Carnival; winning the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) and finishing second in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) most notably.
