A capacity field of sixteen fillies will line up...
The penultimate Golden Rose Stakes Day race at Rosehill Racecourse this weekend in Sydney is the 2016 Sheraco Stakes for the fillies and mares, betting tips and the latest odds for which can be found below.
Due to jump as Rosehill Race 8 at 4:30pm (AEST), this spring’s $125,000 Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) originally drew a final field of 15.
The line-up is down to 14 starters after the early scratching of Yattarna (8), and the updated Sheraco Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au have the widely-drawn Dixie Blossoms ($5) tipped as the one to beat.
Ron Quinton’s daughter of Street Sense comes in from gate 13 to 12 with Tim Clark retaining the ride second-up, the four-year-old coming off the nice second in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) at Randwick on August 20.
Her main dangers according to the bookies in an open Sheraco Stakes betting market include market mover Ravi ($7 into $5.50) chasing her fourth straight win, class Group 1 placegetter Heavens Above ($7.50) and the Toy Show winner Pearls ($8) carrying the 57kg top weight this weekend.
So can Dixie Blossoms overcome the gate or is there value further down the Sheraco Stakes odds this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival?
#2 Heavens Above ($7.50)
Second-up Tim Martin’s smart Street Cry five-year-old can improve and she was far from disgraced resuming with a close fourth in the Toy Show beaten only 1.6 lengths. She has run second in both her second-up runs to date, and from five runs at Rosehill has run second four times. Has won her only other start at this distance, is a Group 3 winner over the mile at Randwick and ran second to Azkadellia in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes in the autumn so has class. Drops from 59kg to 56kg so is better in the weights and gets the chance to defeat Pearls in the rematch from a good alley (3).
#11 Denmagic ($12)
The value tip in the field for us shapes up as this David Pfieffer-trained Denman four-year-old who just needs the luck from the outside barrier. Gets in on the 54kg minimum with Tommy Berry back aboard having ridden the then filly to a nice second in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) last time out. She has trialled once since in late August at Rosehill for a second to Our Boy Malachi, has run third in two of her three starts at Rosehill and the distance suits (5-1-1-2).
#1 Pearls ($8)
The John O’Shea-trained Exceed And Excel four-year-old kicked off a spring with the Group 3 Toy Show win and chases another victory on the weekend. She goes up from 54kg to the 57kg top weight on the weekend and is out in a double-figure barrier, but only needs to improve a bit on the returning run. James McDonald in the saddle is a plus.
