Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
A quality field of mares will face off in the 2016 Let’s Elope Stakes at Flemington Racecourse this weekend in Melbourne, betting tips and the latest odds on the Makybe Diva Stakes Day feature found below.
Due to jump as Flemington Race 8 at 4:50pm (AEST), this season’s $200,000 Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) field will run at its 15-starer capacity.
The scratching of Niminypiminy (14) and the first emergency Cana (5) has paved the way for the other two emergencies – Egypt (10) and Champagne Cocktail (13) – to gain a start in the set weight plus penalties showdown.
Four of the mares in the mix are currently under $10 for the win in the Let’s Elope Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au including the returning Mick Price-trained Group 2 winner at the track /distance Badawiya and the Tony McEvoy-trained distance specialist Don’t Doubt Mamma who share $6.50 favouritism.
So will the top two in the markets be the first two over the line or is there value further down Let’s Elope Stakes betting this season from the likes of the Chris Waller-trained French Emotion ($7), the super-consistent Darren Weir-trained stakes winner at the track / distance Telopea ($8.5), last start Cockram Stakes runner-up Thames Court ($10) or Lindsay Park’s last start Moonee Valley winner Catch A Fire ($11)?
#4 Thames Court ($10)
Form stacks up nicely for this David Brideoake-trained Commands four-year-old coming off the Cockram second at Caulfield. She is a Group 3 winner over a mile, so second up the 1400m should suit. Perfect draw to stay out of trouble and roll forward for a hard finish at double-figures.
#12 Telopea ($8)
Weir’s six-year-old has the outside alley, but if she overcomes that she’ll be right in the mix with Damien Oliver retaining the ride. He rode her for the Cockram Stakes third, form we’re tipping to stack up in the Let’s Elope. She is a gun over 1400m (7-4-2-0) and won over this track / distance two back in the winter.
#2 Don’t Doubt Mamma ($6.50)
Of the two top fancies, Don’t Doubt Mamma is the livewire hope. She’ll need to work to stay out of trouble from the inside alley in the full field, but Dwayne Dunn aboard is a plus. She’s well-performed at the distance (4-3-1-0) and over the 1400m at Flemington (3-2-1-0). Was only 1.6 lengths away when fifth in the Cockram and will be improving second-up.
