2016 Furious Stakes Betting Tips & Update

A quality field of fillies face off in the Furious Stakes 2016 this afternoon in Sydney, betting tips and the latest odds for the Royal Randwick sprint found below.

Running as Race 6 at 3:10pm (AEST) on the Chelmsford Stakes Day program, the $175,000 Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) field is down to 13 starters after the scratching of My Country (12).

Sitting top of the updated Furious Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $5 for the win is the in-form I Am A Star from Mornington, the Victorian visitor chasing her fourth win on the trot.

The Shane Nichols-trained filly has lost just one of her four starts to date and became a dual Group 3 winner last time out in Caulfield’s Quezette Stakes (1100m).

She races in Sydney for the first time in the Furious Stakes and remains the top fancy despite not having raced at the track or on anything worse than Good going.

It’s a Heavy (9) course at Randwick for the meeting however so there could be value further down the Furious Stakes betting markets.

I Am A Star is followed closely in betting by the undefeated Awoke ($5.50) and Global Glamour ($5.50) who is also yet to taste defeat after winning on a Heavy (9) track at Kembla Grange by a runaway six lengths on debut in January.

So can I Am A Star handle the mud course or is there an upset Furious Stakes result pending?

#8 Awoke ($5.50)

Chris Waller’s Rip Van Winkle filly has won both of her career starts to date and sees Black-Type company for the first time here. Her last start was over 1400m at Rosehill in July, but she has trialled well since. She is drawn wide, but has class to overcome the draw. Both her wins were on Soft tracks so if she gets through the Heavy going like that she’ll be hard to stop fresh over this distance.

#13 I’m Imogen ($16)

Good odds on off for Brett Thompson’s mudlark who is right up in grade here but deserving of a chance. She’s never raced in the big city, but has had five runs on Heavy tracks for two wins and two seconds. The conditions put her in the mix after she won on August 23 by 6.8 lengths on a Heavy (8) track at Dubbo over 1120m. Is drawn double digits but should be one of the best through the going.

#12 Global Glamour ($5.50)

Impressive win on a Heavy Kembla Grange track by over six lengths on debut by this Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Star Witness filly back in late January. She has had two August trials at Randwick to bring her on fitness-wise for this and she’ll get things her way on the Heavy course from barrier seven with Tommy Berry aboard.
