Champagne Stakes winner Prized Icon is a dual nominee across the Chelmsford Stakes Day card in Sydney on Saturday including holding an entry for the Ming Dynasty Quality 2016.
Five Group races take place at Royal Randwick Racecourse this weekend and the James Cummings-trained Prized Icon is entered for both the $250,000 Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and $125,000 Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality Handicap (1400m).
In the former the More Than Ready colt will face a tough second-up assignment over the mile up against superstar mare Winx in the weight-for-age feature.
The easier of the two options then would be the Ming Dynasty against a field of fellow three-year-olds.
Racing NSW received 13 early entries for the Ming Dynasty Quality this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival with nominations extended until 11:00am (AEST) on Tuesday morning.
Prized Icon is the highest-rated of the current entries and if accepted would cart top weight after his win in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at the track as a two-year-old in mid-August.
His resuming run was on August 20 in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) when fourth to 2016 Golden Rose Stakes-bound Divine Prophet at the Randwick track a fortnight back, his 61kg that day getting the better of him.
Cummings has also nominated for his returning Northern Meteor filly Skylight Glow who won back-to-back races in Sydney in May including over 1400m at the track.
A total of four fillies are nominated for this season’s Ming Dynasty Quality including also the ultra-consistent Zunbaqa for Lindsay Park
Zunbaqa has won her past four starts on the trot including the latest over 1400m at Flemington on August 6, but the daughter of More Than Ready is as yet untested in Sydney.
Another smart last start winner looking to extend a victorious streak on the weekend is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained First Approval.
The Northern Meteor colt has won back-to-back races at Kembla Grange and has his first start at Randwick in the Ming Dynasty.
He could be joined in the field by two stablemates with Team Snowden also nominating for fellow last start Kembla Grange winning colt Argentina and Taj Mahal.
A son of More Than Ready, Taj Mahal is twice Group 3 performed including his fifth when under three lengths off the winner first-up in the Up And Coming Stakes.
Gerald Ryan has nominated for his maiden Lonhro colt Star Of Monsoon chasing his first win at start number five, while Team Hawkes’ promising Redoute’s Choice colt Swear has his second run after a Hawkesbury win on debut from late April.
