It is a fine day in the greater Melbourne metropolitan area today and the Caulfield track has been rated a ‘Good 4’, following only 4mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Notable runners have been drawn to all nine races on 2016 PB Lawrence Stakes Day, but understandably it is the Group 2 feature race at 4:00pm local time that has continued to herald the greatest attention.

Caulfield Track Report – 13/8/2016

  • Rail: +3m entire course
  • Penetrometer: 18
  • Weather: Fine
  • Track Rating: Good 4
  • Irrigation: Nil
  • Rainfall: 4mm last 24 hours, 12.8mm last 7 days

2016 PB Lawrence Stakes Day will get underway with the running of the ANZAC Commemoration Handicap (2000m) at 12:15pm; a race that will be contested by only six runners following scratchings.

Races 2 through 4 have all attracted plenty of depth; both runners well into their preparations and horses resuming ahead of Spring Carnival campaigns, however the quality of competition undoubtedly steps up from Race 5; the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m).

The John McArdle-trained Power Trip has been scratched from the Vain Stakes, but the race will still boast the likes of Russian Revolution, Highland Beat and Artie Dee Two.

The Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at 3:20pm will see the competitive return of several standout three-year-old fillies including Concealer, Sword Of Light and Modern Wonder, who are all likely on a mission towards the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) in October.

Several previous winners at the highest level have been confirmed in a particularly classy PB Lawrence Stakes field, including Smokin’ Joey, Set Square and Jameka. Lord Of The Sky carries winning form into the race, which will also feature the likes of The Cleaner, Awesome Rock, Mahuta and Suavito.

The Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) is the final black type race at Caulfield this afternoon, while the card will officially draw to a close following the Ramlegh Springs The Place To Be Plate (1400m) at 5:10pm.
