A capacity field of sixteen fillies will line up...
Tony McEvoy’s Thousand Guineas-bound filly Concealer will kick off her three-year-old season and spring campaign on Saturday in the 2016 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse.
The daughter of Nicconi has had four starts to date, including her Group 3 Emirates Airline Plate (1000m) win down the Flemington straight on Melbourne Cup Day as a 20/1 shot last November.
In the autumn she did well first-up when second to Samara Dancer in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude (1100m) in mid-February before a ninth to Extreme Choice in the Group 1 a fortnight later.
Her latest run was at Flemington on March 12 when sixth, beaten four lengths by the winner Thyme For Roses in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m).
Concealer had an official hit-out at Morphettville Parks on July 25 running third to Mystified in the 1000m trial, pleasing McEvoy who is keen to get her back to the races this weekend in the $150,000 Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m).
“She trialled nicely in Adelaide the other day and has come over to Melbourne and has been galloping nicely,” McEvoy told the media this week.
A key feature on the P.B. Lawrence Stakes Day card, this year’s Quezette Stakes attracted 22 nominations with plenty of class among the three-year-old fillies entered for the set weights plus penalties sprint.
Current all-in Quezette Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by Shane Nichols’ returning Mornington-trained filly I Am A Star ($5.50) who won Adelaide’s Group 3 National Stakes (1200m) last time out on May 21.
Concealer meanwhile is a little further down the futures Quezette Stakes betting markets but still at single-figures paying $9 to win first-up.
Her main aim in Melbourne this season is pencilled in as the $500,000 Group 1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) back at Caulfield on October 8.
McEvoy has had five previous Thousand Guineas runners without success, and Concealer is currently only rated a $41 shot in early markets for the mile classic.
“I’m looking forward to her return and getting her out to a mile,” he said, also not ruling her out of a trip to Sydney on October 1 for the $500,000 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.
Shorter in ante-post Thousand Guineas betting and nominated for a Quezette Stakes run on Saturday are the likes of Modern Wonder ($15), Athena Lass ($21) and the aforementioned I Am A Star ($21).
