Not A Single Doubt colt Extreme Choice was the most notable omission from the first acceptances for the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) taken this week ahead of the Rosehill feature run on September 10.

A winner of three of his four starts to date, Extreme Choice is best known for his smart one and three-quarter length victory in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at his home track in late February.

He failed to secure the coveted double with success in Sydney’s Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) next time out, the three-year-old only managing to run a mid-field eighth behind the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Capitalist.

While Capitalist is likely to run in the Golden Rose Stakes second-up this spring, Extreme Choice will be saved for a resuming run in Melbourne going straight to Group 1 class and open-age company in Moonee Valley’s $500,000 Moir Stakes (1000m) on September 30.

It will be the youngster’s first look at the notoriously tight Moonee Valley track, Price having won the Moir Stakes back in 2013 with Samaready.

No three-year-old has won the race, formerly known as the Schweppes Stakes, since Virage De Fortune back in 2005 however.

The long-term Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival target for Extreme Choice meanwhile takes place at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday October 29 with Price planning a $500,000 Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) run on Victoria Derby Day.

The past three Coolmore Stud Stakes champions were prepared by Sydney’s Chris Waller and came off a run in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick.

Waller won the race last year with Japonisme who followed on from Zoustar (2013) and Brazen Beau (2014) who both completed the Roman Consul – Coolmore Stud Stakes double.
