The only Black-Type on the card, this year’s $150,000 Listed Winter Stakes (1400m) is due to run as Race 6 at 2:35pm (AEST) on the nine-event program.

The highest-rated and weighted of the final Winter Stakes acceptors is the Peter Robl-trained Ninth Legion who shoots for three Black-Type wins on the trot this campaign.

The Fastnet Rock six-year-old took out Ipswich’s Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) two back in Queensland before a last start victory at Rosehill on July 2 in the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m).

The Civic Stakes was Ninth Legion’s 15th start at the track he returns to for this weekend’s feature and his second success at Rosehill.

He goes up a kilo to 60kg on Saturday giving the weight away to his nine Winter Stakes rivals with Sam Clipperton retaining the ride.

The other last start winner in the mix is the Chris Waller-trained Tales Of Grimm drawn one on the outside of Ninth Legion (9) in the outside barrier (10).

Tommy Berry replaces Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle of the Distorted Humor seven-year-old who comes off a Listed Spear Chief Handicap (1500m) win at Eagle Farm from June 25.

The veteran import carried 55.5kg to victory that day and rises to 56.5kg this weekend having his fourth run at Rosehill where he was last seen crossing fourth to Foreign Prince in the mud over 1800m on June 4.

Waller has also accepted for Marenostro who is drawn the opposite end of the field set to get the rails run from barrier one with Tye Angland booked for the ride.

The New Zealand-bred Duelled five-year-old has a two-from-four strike rate over Saturday’s track / distance, but needs to improve on his disappointing last start ninth of nine runners in the Civic Stakes.

Runner-up to Ninth Legion in the Civic Stakes defeated only a neck last start, the Michelle Ritchie-trained Churchill Downs four-year-old Better Not Blue is out to turn the tables on his conqueror in the rematch on Saturday.

Prepared at Kembla Grange, Better Not Blue carried 54kg in the Civic Stakes and gets in on the minimum again in the Winter Stakes jumping from barrier seven with apprentice Taylor Marshall continuing an association with the progressive galloper who has his fifth run over the track / distance (4-0-2-1).

Also out of the Civic Stakes and backing-up in the Winter Stakes this season is the fourth-placed Snippets Land who finished only 1.3 lengths off the winner.

Peter & Paul Snowden train the son of Snippetson who won the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben in May and finished under three lengths away fifth to Spill The Beans in Eagle Farm’s Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) before his Civic Stakes run.

His form is solid and his strike-rate over 1400m stands at three wins and a second from nine starts, but from six Rosehill runs he is yet to run top three.

Oxford Poet comes off three good Sydney runs for Wyong trainer Kim Waugh, the Dylan Thomas five-year-old’s latest a fifth when only 1.4 lengths off Ninth Legion in the Civic Stakes.

Prior to that the in-form gelding was runner-up behind That’s A Good Idea over 1100m at Randwick on May 28 before a third to Danish Twist at the same track on June 11 in the Listed June Stakes (1100m).

A winner of two of his five previous Rosehill assignments, Oxford Poet also has strong form over Saturday’s distance (7-1-2-2).
