Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Sydney Winter Racing Carnival Black-Type action continues this Saturday at Rosehill Gardens with the Civic Stakes 2016, betting tips for the sprint clash featured below.
Due to jump as Rosehill Race 7 at 3:05pm (AEST), this year’s $100,000 Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) field features nine runners.
Of the small line-up the best in Civic Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au and the early market mover is Oxford Poet ($3.10).
Money continues to roll in for Kim Waugh’s consistent Dylan Thomas five-year-old who comes off back-to-back Randwick placings this campaign.
The latest was a third in the Listed June Stakes (1100m) to Danish Twist on June 11 that he’ll be out to atone for getting out over a distance he boasts a strong record at (8-2-3-2).
So will Oxford Poet get the job done or is there an upset Civic Stakes result pending from another top fancy in the markets such as Peter & Paul Snowden’s recent Group 3 winner in Brisbane Snippets Land ($4.40) or the Chris Waller-trained Duelled five-year-old Marenostro ($4.40).
#4 Vergara ($8)
Think there’s plenty of value to cash in on in this year’s Civic Stakes including the odds on offer for Vergara who has her first and only run for trainer Gerald Ryan before retirement. She doesn’t know it, but this is her last shot at a win before heading to the breeding barn. She’s drawn well mid-field in barrier five and 55kg is a far weight for the five-year-old daughter of Snippetson. She’s got a killer record over Saturday’s distance (15-4-2-0) and doesn’t mind a run at Rosehill. Was flying in the autumn including her fourth to Winx in the Doncaster Mile and her Group 3 win at this track over 1900m. Comes off a good Rosehill trial behind Sebring Sun and also runs well fresh (7-2-1-2).
#7 Oxford Poet ($3.10)
Favourite in the markets and money keeps coming for the Wyong-trained gelding who runs at his pet track (4-2-0-1) over his pet distance (8-2-3-2). He is sure to enjoy getting back up to 1350m after two good placings at Randwick over 1100m this winter, the latest in Black-Type company from June 11. Drops from 56kg that start to Saturday’s 54kg minimum in another tick for the well-drawn galloper.
#1 Ninth Legion ($8.50)
Peter Robl’s smart Fastnet Rock six-year-old gives the weight away carrying 59kg, but he had the same kilos on his back last start in Queensland on June 18 winning the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m). He’s over the same distance here and kills it over the 1350m – 1400m (18-5-4-3). Has found form and is looking to bring it home.
