A quality field of stayers face off at Eagle Farm Racecourse in this weekend’s Tattersall’s Open Handicap 2016, betting tips for which are detailed below.

Telepathic

Due to run as Eagle Farm Race 4 at 12:42pm (AEST) on the Tattersall’s Tiara Day card, the $100,000 Listed A M Giles & Co Chartered Accountants Open Handicap (1830m) has attracted 11 runners.

Fighting for favouritism in the latest Tattersall’s Open Handicap odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are the Chris Waller-trained mare Telepathic ($2.60) and Peter & Paul Snowden’s 58kg top weight Pajaro ($2.90).

Telepathic is well-weighed with 54.5kg, the weight all but Pajaro carry in the race, and jumps from barrier five with Kerrin McEvoy aboard second-up off her disappointing ninth in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at the track a fortnight back.

Pajaro meanwhile is in top form, the Align gelding having won the Listed Scone Cup (1600m) in mid-May before a second in the Group 3 Lord Mayors Cup (1615m) and Listed The Wayne Wilson Mile (1600m) in Brisbane at his two latest starts.

So will one of the top two in Tattersall’s Open Handicap betting get the job done or is the value further down the markets from the likes of the Robert Heathcote-trained market mover Lordag ($11 into $7.50), dual winner over the distance Adirondack ($8.50) or even the rails-drawn My Quilter ($15) coming off a mile win at the Sunshine Coast from June 12?

1st

#10 Telepathic ($2.60)

Think the order of the odds is right and that Waller’s mare will notably improve second-up after her unplaced run in the Dane Ripper at the track a fortnight back. She drops three kilos in the weights for this weekend, is down in class, Group 1 performed, a Group 2 runner-up in Sydney from earlier in the year and has winning form up to 2000m in stakes class so will be eating up the extra meters here.

2nd

#1 Pajaro ($2.90)

Team Snowden’s five-year-old is in flying form and relishing his time in Queensland, but is up notably in distance off his recent mile runs. The Scone Cup victory at $21 was strong from a wide barrier and it’s hard to knock his two efforts in Brisbane since. He was beaten 2.5 lengths in The Wayne Wilson though and hasn’t raced over further than 1600m since March last year. He also gives the weight away, so will need to be tough to hold off the light weights.

3rd

#9 Shotover River ($19)

Value bet lies in this John & Chris Meagher-trained Savabeel six-year-old who is a dual winner from three runs at this distance. His latest victory was back on New Year’s Day at eh Sunshine Coast, and he was unplaced at Doomben behind Rudy back in mid-May. He runs well fresh however and has had a little break between runs, will enjoy getting out over extra meters here, is on the improve and is a genuine Place chance in an open market over chances.
