The last on the card at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Saturday is the Daybreak Lover 2016, betting tips for the three-years-old clash found below.
This year’s $125,000 Listed Landfill Logistics Daybreak Lover Stakes (1400m) is set to run as Eagle Farm Race 10 at 4:32pm (AEST), the Tattersall’s Tiara Day program extended after the addition of the Spear Chief Handicap that was originally part of the Queensland Oaks Day wash-out.
A field of 11 three-year-olds take to the track in the Daybreak this Queensland Winter Racing Carnival with betting on the set weights plus penalties clash at Ladbrokes.com.au led by Chris Waller’s Group 2 Queensland Guineas winner Tsaritsa.
She is drawn the rails in barrier one with Hugh Bowman booked to ride the $2 favourite who saluted over the mile at the track in tougher company a fortnight back.
If anything beats the flying Dane Shadow filly the bookies say it is fellow Queensland Guineas graduate Sold For Song ($4.20), Kevin Kemp’s Collate filly beaten 1.6 lengths when third in the Stradbroke Day Group 2.
So will the two top fancied fillies hold off the boys again on Saturday or is there value further down the Daybreak Lover betting markets in the likes of the Matthew Dunn-trained Guineas fifth placegetter Perfect Dare ($6.50) or even early market mover In His Stride ($12) drawn the outside alley and coming off a win at Ipswich last weekend?
#1 Tsaritsa ($2)
There’ll be no beating Waller’s in-form filly who shoots for four wins from as many starts this time in. She brought her winning Sydney form to the Sunshine State a fortnight back in the Group 2 Guineas over the boys over the mile. She drops in class and distance here and gets barrier one and Bowman. She’s got the class and promise to go on as a successful four-year-old next time, but first she should collect another Black-Type to see out her season in style.
#9 Sold For Song ($4.20)
This Toowoomba-trained filly was narrowly beaten by Saturday’s favourite in the Guineas two weeks ago and is a livewire chance to turn the tables getting the weight advantage here. Tsaritsa goes up to 57kg while Sold For Song is at 54.5kg after they met equal in the weights last time out. She’s drawn a little wider, but that could be where the track is playing best and she will be running on late. Whether she wants to drop back to 1400m having done her best work in the closing stages from the back in the Group 2 is the question, but she should handle this.
#7 Salmanazar ($8.50)
An open field after the top two and this local Tony Gollan-trained Encosta De Lago gelding is one of the best to finish in the money. He won at Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast in May before a brave second to fellow Daybreak hope In His Stride last Saturday at Ipswich over 1350m. Was only a length off him and will appreciate the 1400m again here, Zac Purton coming aboard.
