The two-year-olds face off on Tattersall’s Tiara Day in Queensland this Saturday in the Wintergarden Stakes 2016 where the Stuart Kendrick-trained Charnley River is well-backed to break his maiden status.
Prepared on the Sunshine Coast the Show A Heart colt has had five runs for three seconds to date, but is after a breakthrough victory in the $100,000 Listed Wintergarden Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse.
He jumps from barrier eight in the 15-starter field and is eligible for not only the $64,000 first prize but also the $24,500 top QTIS Bonus prize on offer in the set weights clash.
Damian Browne rode the promising juvenile for his second at home over 1300m two back and returns to the saddle after Kerrin McEvoy had the mount last start as Charnley River took on much tougher rivals on June 11.
In the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) on Stradbroke Day the youngster jumped as a $41 roughie from barrier 17 of 18, but caught the eye finishing second only to the successful Kiwi raider Sacred Elixir.
He is down in not only class but also distance on Saturday and won’t be found at anywhere near his JJ Atkins price currently sitting top of the Wintergarden Stakes odds at $3.60 through Ladbrokes.com.au.
A number of his rivals join him under $10 for the win including the $6 second favourite Cellarman drawn a treat in barrier three with Hugh Bowman aboard.
Lightly-raced having just his fourth career start this weekend, Mossman colt Cellarman comes from the stables of Chris Waller who sits top of the Group 1 winning tally this season.
The horse was last seen running second over 1200m at Canterbury on June 13 and is expected to handle the extra meters on Tiara Day.
Equal at $6 is early market mover Royal Tithe backed in from $5 after drawing well in barrier five for jockey Tegan Harrison.
Harrison takes over for Luke Dittman aboard the John Zielke-trained Show A Heart filly who shoots for her fourth win at her 10th start on Saturday.
Her biggest win to date was at the Gold Coast in early May scoring the upset in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial (1200m) before Royal Tithe was outclassed running 11th in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) and seventh in the Listed Lancaster Stakes (1200m).
Rounding out the single figure fancies are the Peter Robl-trained daughter of Hinchinbrook Brulee ($7.50) coming off a second in the mud at Rosehill from June 4, Gai Waterhouse’s Fastnet Rock filly Irish Sea ($8) and Robl’s Snitzel Group 2 performed filly Sugarparma ($9.50).
