Tsaritsa Heads 2016 Daybreak Lover Stakes Field

Chris Waller has opted to keep his smart Queensland Guineas winner Tsaritsa out of Saturday’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara and instead will run her against her own age again in the Daybreak Lover Stakes 2016.

The in-form daughter of Dane Shadow backed-up off two recent Sydney wins to flash home at Eagle Farm on Stradbroke Handicap Day a fortnight back to win the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m).

That performance elevated her to the second line of futures betting for the season’s final elite level race behind Azkadellia in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).

Waller however opted not to accept Tsaritsa for the Tattersall’s Tiara field and instead the filly will take her place from barrier one of 11 in the card closer.

Running as Eagle Farm Race 10 at 4:32pm (AEST) on the extended Tatt’s Tiara Day program, this year’s $125,000 Listed Landfill Logistics Daybreak Lover Stakes (1400m) has definite class factor.

Hugh Bowman replaces Joao Moreira aboard Tsaritsa this weekend where, after overcoming barrier 11 (of 18) to win the Queensland Guineas, she will relish the inside run in a smaller field in easier company.

The other best out of the Queensland Guineas running in the Daybreak Lover Stakes this Queensland Winter Racing Carnival is the Kevin Kemp-trained third placed Collate filly Sold For Song.

She was far from disgraced running only one and a half lengths off the winner and shoots for her first win since the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Doomben in December last year.

Aside from Tsaritsa, three other last start winners are also in the mix including the Rex Lipp-trained In His Stride drawn the opposite end of the Daybreak Lover field in gate 11.

Prepared at Toowoomba the Rothesay gelding saluted at Ipswich just last Saturday over 1250m in an improved effort on his previous 13th behind Waller’s Group 1 performer Counterattack in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben.

Also looking to stretch out to two wins on the trot are the David Kelly-trained Devil’s Fire (3) from the Gold Coast who has a gun record over the distance (4-1-2-1) and Michael Costa’s undefeated Husson filly Flirtatious Femme (10).

She has had just two runs to date for two wins saluting over 1100m at Gosford and the Gold Coast respectively earlier this month.

Matthew Dunn is represented by his Fred Best Classic third placed son of Fastnet Rock Perfect Dare who is out to improve on a Queensland Guineas fifth when defeated under two lengths, while Shotacross The Bow comes off a ninth in the same Group 2 lead-up.

Also coming off an Ipswich Cup Day from last weekend are the Stuart Kendrick-trained Street Sense colt Beat Street who ran second over 1350m behind Rare Air and Tony Gollan’s consistent son of Encosta De Lago Salmanazar out to turn the tables on In His Stride.
