Last start Randwick winner That’s A Good Idea will shoot for his first Black-Type success in over 12 months when he lines-up as the top weight in Saturday’s WJ Healy Stakes 2016 field at Eagle Farm Racecourse.
Due to run as penultimate event on the extended Tattersall’s Tiara Day card in Brisbane that brings the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival to a close, the $175,000 Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) is scheduled as Eagle Farm Race 9 at 3:57pm.
A final field of 13 sprinters are set to face off with the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Flying Spur six-year-old That’s A Good Idea carting the 59.5kg top weight from a gun barrier two draw with Hugh Bowman in the saddle.
The horse’s last stakes success was at Scone in May last year when he won the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) before a second at Doomben in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m).
He went a year between wins before breaking the drought at Randwick on May 28 over 1100m on the back of a third in the Ortensia when failing to successfully defend his title.
That’s A Good Idea was brave in the Sydney run carting 62kg to victory, so will relish the drop in kilos even though he still gives weight away to the rest of the WJ Healy Stakes field.
The only other two final acceptors allocated more than the 54kg minimum in Saturday’s sprint are the locally-trained duo of Into The Red (56kg) and Saluter (55kg) drawn alongside each other in barriers seven and eight respectively.
Kelso Wood saddles-up Into The Red who apprentice Luke Dittman will continue his association on this weekend.
The son of Not A Single Doubt ran sixth to Dothraki in last year’s WJ Healy Stakes when it ran at the Gold Coast before spending a year on the sidelines.
He returned as a five-year-old on April 30 at Doomben and enjoyed a first-up victory in the Listed Bribie Handicap (1050m) with 58.5kg on his back.
Last time out he and Dittman combined again, but from a wide gate 12 of 12 draw on June 8 back at Doomben Into The Red could only manage to finish three lengths back in fifth to Executed in the Listed Lighting Handicap (1050m).
Saluter is trained by one of Brisbane’s best, Robert Heathcote, and comes off a last start Sunshine Coast success over 1000m on May 15.
The Commands six-year-old hadn’t raced before that since a ninth in the Gold Coast’s Magic Millions Cup back in early January and Saturday will be his 13th start at Eagle Farm where he currently has a record of two wins, four seconds and two thirds.
Heathcote has also accepted for Dream Choice in the WJ Healy, the Redoute’s Choice seven-year-old drawn wide out in barrier 12 with Jeff Lloyd replacing Tim Clark in the saddle.
Clark rode the veteran to a last start fifth in the Listed Chief De Beers Handicap (1050m) on May 21, Dream Choice having his maiden run at Eagle Farm having previously been prepared and raced in Sydney.
Drawn the outside alley (13 of 13) is the other last start winner in the mix, the Robert Smerdon-trained Odyssey Moon.
Chris Parnham is booked for the ride on the in-form three-year-old who he rode for a third two back in Flemington’s Listed The Straight Six (1200m).
That followed a string of good runs from the smart Snitzel colt who previously finished fourth in the Group 3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in February, third in the Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m) in March and second in Randwick’s Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) during April’s ‘The Championships’.
Last time out he saluted on a Heavy (8) Sandown-Hillside track in a three-years-old handicap carrying 58kg to victory in the 1300m clash on June 4.
He gets the three weeks between runs and drops four kilos as he prepares to take on a field of older rivals back in Group class.
