Running as Eagle Farm Race 6 at 1:57pm (AEST), this year’s $200,000 Group 3 Carlton Mid Tattersall’s Cup Handicap (2200m) has attracted a final field of just eight stayers.

Heading the field and Tattersall’s Cup weights with 59.5kg is imported Haafhd eight-year-old Junoob coming off a brave third under the same kilos in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) a fortnight back.

In that Stradbroke Handicap Day run Waller’s veteran galloper finished 3.3 lengths off the winner Benzini, who he gets the chance to turn the tables on in Saturday’s rematch.

Junoob shoots for his first win since the Listed Ballarat Cup (2200m) last November, while his last start conqueror Benzini shoots for back-to-back victories at Eagle Farm.

Blake Shinn retains the ride on Junoob who jumps from the inside alley, while Kiwi hoop Rosie Myers continues her association on the Adrian & Harry Bull-trained New Zealand raider Benzini from gate three on Saturday.

Tale Of The Cat six-year-old Benzini has a strong 2200m record of a win and two thirds from three previous starts over the distance, including his third to Real Love in his Australian race debut on May 28 in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup at Doomben.

He then won the Brisbane Cup in an upset as a $10 hope from the same gate he’s drawn this weekend, but carried just 54.5kg and goes up to 58kg for the Tattersall’s Cup.

Waller has also accepted for Index Linked in barrier two on 57kg and has booked Hugh Bowman to stick aboard the rising nine-year-old who finished 4.3 lengths back for fifth in the Brisbane Cup last time out.

Also in good form is the John O’Shea-trained Teofilo five-year-old Malice.

He ran third in the Scone Cup three back beaten only a quarter-length before another third place finish when under a length off Mighty Lucky in the Lord Mayors Cup.

His latest run was in the Listed The Wayne Wilson Mile (1600m) when fourth to Hopfgarten, so the test on Saturday will be how he handles the notable step up to 2200m.

The other most notable runner is the Michael, Wayne & Hawkes-trained Tucanchoo (54kg, barrier two, Paul Hammersley) coming off a string of interstate wins including carrying 58kg to victory over 2000m at Randwick two weeks ago.
