The Doomben Cup 2018 takes centre stage in...
Peter & Paul Snowden will chase another win this campaign with That’s A Good Idea who is the highest-rated nomination taken for Saturday’s WJ Healy Stakes 2016 on Tattersall’s Tiara Day.
Last Queensland Winter Racing Carnival the father-and-son training duo enjoyed success in the $175,000 Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) with Dothraki (2015).
They return 12 months later after back-to-back wins in the handicap clash, running back at the newly reopened Eagle Farm Racecourse this weekend, with Flying Spur six-year-old That’s A Good Idea.
A four-time winner over the 1200m, the gelding ran third at Scone in the Listed Ortensia Stakes (1100m) two back before a last start win over 1100m at Randwick on May 28.
That was his first win since the 2015 Ortensia Stakes, after which he ran second in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1200m), and on Saturday he chases a second Black-Type victory.
Also coming off a win are the Robert Heathcote-trained Commands six-year-old Saluter who won over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast carrying 60kg on May 15 and Robert Smerdon’s recent Sandown winner over 1300m in the wet Odyssey Moon.
Odyssey Moon is a three-year-old Snitzel colt gearing up for his Brisbane debut who has finished top four in all five of his runs this year including his second to He’s Our Rokkii in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) in Sydney during ‘The Championships’.
There are three other three-year-olds in the mix with the Liam Birchley-trained New Zealand import Hardline coming off a Listed third at Doomben from June 8, John O’Shea’s Queensland Day Stakes runner-up Mogador who ran fifth to Japonisme in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) last Spring at Flemington and the Gary Portelli-trained Sebring Sun.
Third in last September’s Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m), Sebring sun hasn’t finished in the money since and comes off a winning 1030m Rosehill trial from June 10 that he blitzed by three and a half lengths.
Other notable hopes include Heathcote’s other entry Dream Choice who comes off a Chief De Beers fifth at Doomben, the Kelso Wood-trained recent Bribie Handicap winner Into The Red and Tony Gollan’s smart four-year-old mare Tina Melina whose lead-up run on May 21 was a fourth in the Listed Bright Shadow Handicap (1200m).
