Running as Ipswich Race 7 at 3:57pm (AEST), this year’s $175,000 Listed City Of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) field features 13 hopefuls.

Leading the latest Eye Liner Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.10 and firming is the rails-drawn Trubia.

Jockey Michael Cahill returns to the saddle of Michael Lakey’s four-year-old Show A Heart stallion, replacing Bobby El-Issa.

Prepared just outside of Brisbane at Deagon, the nicely-bred Trubia is a three-time winner over Saturday’s distance and has been well-backed in from $4.60 to $3.10 to return to winning form in the Eye Liner.

He will get a gun run from barrier one after doing it tough from gate 13 of 13 in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm just last Saturday.

The step back in class will suit and the bookies are rating the improver as the one to beat in this Black-Type.

Four of his rivals are also under double-figures in the Eye Liner Stakes betting markets including the Robert Heathcote-trained Commands six-year-old Saluter ($7) coming off a 1000m win at the Sunshine Coast from mid-May and the returning eight-year-old grey Steel Zip ($9) for Pat Duff.

So will the top fancies get the job done or is the value in an upset from the likes of Tony Sears’ God’s Own six-year-old Pillar Of Creation ($9.50), stablemate Choice Bro ($9.50) who won the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) two back at home or 53-start veteran Timeless Prince ($10) in an open market?

#7 Trubia ($3.10)

Hard to go past the favourite and market mover who has been far from disgraced against tougher company than this throughout a strong Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival campaign. Ran fourth in the Group 3 BRC Sprint two back and eighth in the QTC Cup last weekend from a nasty barrier (13 of 13). Luck of the draw here with barrier one, Cahill comes back aboard for the first time since late April and is back to Listed class.

#11 Royal Occasion ($11)

Nice price on offer for Matthew Dunn’s track specialist, the Lonhro five-year-old a winner of four of his five previous runs at the Ipswich track. Hasn’t won here since October last year, but has been in good form this campaign including a 1200m win at the Gold Coast last time out in early May. Runs well fresh and did it tough from gate 10 of 12 that day, barrier nine here but form is right and ticking boxes returning to the track.

#4 Pillar Of Creation ($9.50)

Carrying 55.5kg, Sears’ six-year-old needs to improve on a 13th in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast last time out, but he was caught wide then so there were excuses. The run before he was third to his stablemate Choice Bro beaten only a half-length in the Weetwood Handicap carrying 57kg. Won back-to-back Doomben races over 1350m before that so has a gun record over the distance (20-6-3-1).
