Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The John O’Shea-trained Sydney raider Chipanda is set to start favourite in the first on Stradbroke Handicap Day in Brisbane on Saturday sitting top of the Lancaster Stakes 2016 odds this season.
A nicely-bred daughter of 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes – Golden Slipper winning champion Sepoy, the Godolphin-raced Chipanda is one of a bumper 18 two-year-old fillies in the mix for this year’s $100,000 Listed James Boag’s Premium Lancaster Stakes (1200m).
Kicking off an extended 10-race Eagle Farm race card for Saturday at 10:50am (AEST), the Lancaster Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by Chipanda at $5 for the win.
She is drawn in barrier five with one of Sydney’s leading jockeys James McDonald booked for the ride, her first outside of New South Wales.
A dual third placegetter including in January’s Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m), Chipanda broke her maiden status at her third start on May 21 at Rosehill saluting over 1200m before her step back up to Black-Type class on the weekend.
O’Shea has also accepted for the widely-drawn Nonpareil (15), a $9 hope in betting, to be ridden by local hoop Damian Browne.
Browne replaces McDonald in the saddle of the nicely-bred daughter of Commands who ran fourth in the Widden Stakes on debut in the summer before her third to Manaya in a Listed Scone sprint in mid-May.
Following Chipanda closely in the Lancaster Stakes betting markets meanwhile at $5.50 is last start winner My Country, also drawn well in barrier five with Blake Shinn booked for the ride.
Peter & Paul Snowden prepare the Poet’s Voice filly whose last run produced a narrow win over 1000m at Kembla Grange a fortnight back, Saturday her maiden stakes assignment.
The other single-figure hopes are Chris Waller’s progressive maiden Invincibella ($6.50), Sunshine Coast-trained Group 3 winner Royal Tithe ($8) and Irish Sea ($9) for Gai Waterhouse.
Hugh Bowman has the ride on Invincibella from a gun gate four draw as she looks for her first win at start number four following back-to-back Canterbury seconds in May.
John Zielke trains Show A Heart filly Royal Tithe who has won three of her eight starts and placed in a further four of her career runs to date.
Her latest turf triumph was on the Gold Coast in early May in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) before she was outclassed from a wide draw (12 of 13) to run 11th behind 2016 JJ Atkins hope Attention in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 28.
Irish Sea has an outside barrier 14 draw for her and jockey Kerrin McEvoy to overcome in the Lancaster, Waterhouse’s daughter of Fastnet Rock last seen taking out a maiden over 1100m at Hawkesbury on May 31.
Other notable Lancaster Stakes hopes include the Tony Sears-trained Jet Spur filly Two Shoes ($13) from Toowoomba, consistent Hinchinbrook filly Miss Amajardan ($15) with the widest barrier on the weekend and Gold Coast-trained Real Cute ($18) coming off a fifth in the Listed Hampden Stakes (1200m) at Doomben.
