Bjorn Baker has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by Imposing Lass this season, and is confident he filly is primed for a big performance in Saturday’s 2016 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm Racecourse.
Imposing Lass has been a strong and consistent performer for Baker through her short but impressive racing career so far; failing to finish outside the first three in posting four wins and two minors through her six appearances.
Having run on for a handy third amongst classy company in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) a fortnight ago, Baker told G1X he is confident the Eagle Farm track and condition of the 2016 Queensland Oaks will suit the Makfi filly, and could back up in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) a week later should she warrant a berth.
“I’m very confident with her, I thought her run was super last week,” Baker said.
“She is out of a Zabeel mare and just needed a long break after her last prep, so we did that and you can see the benefit.
“I have no worries at all about her staying the trip, the family is full of stayers.
“This is the race we have been waiting for on the big track and if she runs well she is still in the Derby.”
Trialling well in the lead-up to her competitive debut, Imposing Lass immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow with a strong performance for a close second in the Adrian Devlin’s Memorial Maiden (1300m) at Hawkesbury on November 29th.
Having returned to the paddock after posting a maiden win in the Priced Contracting Maiden Handicap (1350m) on December 17th, Imposing Lass picked up where she left off when delivering a notable field a four length defeat in the Ranvet BM67 (1400m) on April 6th.
Repeating the dose in the Schweppes BM78 (1500m) on April 23rd, the filly out of Imposingly made a successful transition to black type company when charging home to take out the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) in her only other start prior to The Roses.
The 2016 Queensland Oaks field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday (June 1st, 2016).
