Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Former Perth Cup winner Real Love is early favourite in 2016 Premier’s Cup betting at Doomben Racecourse this weekend to continue a gun run of autumn – winter form from the Darren Weir-trained mare.
Running as Race 4 at 2:02pm (AEST) on the Doomben 10,000 Day program, this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Channel Seven Premier’s Cup (2200m) field features 12 stayers.
Five of those are under $10 in the latest Premier’s Cup odds at Ladbrokes.com.au to take out the quality handicap clash including Desert King five-year-old Real Love who is the $2.90 top fancy.
Third in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) over the two miles three runs back, the former WA-trained mare was last seen posting a three-quarter length win in the Group 3 JRA Cup (2000m) at Doomben.
She returns to the track on Saturday and gets up over more distance, which will suit, with Brad Rawiller also retaining the ride.
Real Love is drawn well in gate four, but goes up from 56.5kg to 58kg as she attempts back-to-back Doomben Group 3 wins.
The next best in Premier’s Cup betting at $5 and firming is the early market mover Honey Toast who has been backed in early from $7.
Drawn the rails with barrier one, Ben Currie’s Redoute’s Choice five-year-old has Jim Byrne continuing his association with the recent Toowoomba Cup (2000m) winner.
Last start Honey Toast carried 59kg in the Group 2 A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast on May 7 for a sixth place finish to Leebaz that he is tipped to improve on getting out over more metres this weekend and dropping to the 54kg minimum in the Premier’s Cup.
Following closely are the likes of the 60kg top weight Junoob ($5.50) coming off a fourth in the JRA Cup, Helen Page’s last start Listed Member’s Handicap (1600m) winner at the track Rudy ($6) who Mark Zahra is booked to ride from the outside alley (12) and Index Linked ($6.50).
The other Chris Waller runner in the mix along with Junoob, Index Linked jumps from gate three on Saturday with Sydney’s best James McDonald in town for the ride on the imported Dansili eight-year-old.
Two back Index Linked was runner-up at Randwick in the Group 3 JRA Plate (2000m) before his fifth to Ecuador at Rosehill in early May’s Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m).
Other notable hopes at more generous odds include the Ciaron Maher-trained Tavistock mare Imperial Lass ($20) coming off a third at the track from just last weekend and the in-form New Zealand raider Benzini ($21) from the Hunterville stables of Adrian Bull.
