Amovatio Heads 2016 Lord Mayor’s Cup Field

In-form five-year-old Amovatio from the Sydney stables of Chris Waller heads a bumper field of milers in the Lord Mayor’s Cup 2016 at Doomben Racecourse this weekend in Brisbane.

Running at 3:21pm (AEST) as the sixth race on the Doomben 10,000 Day program, Saturday’s $125,000 Group 3 Programmed Property Services Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m) has attracted a full field of 15.

Drawn in gate eight and wearing the number one saddlecloth is Al Maher gelding Amovatio who comes off nice lead-up form this campaign.

Two back he won the Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup (1600m) before a last start second to Pajaro in the Listed Scone Cup (1600m) on May 13.

Peter & Paul Snowden’s last start Scone Cup winner Pajaro is also in the Lord Mayor’s Cup field on the weekend, but Amovatio meets him on equal on 59kg in the weight-for-age clash.

In the Scone Cup Amovatio (59.5kg) gave the weight away to Align five-year-old Pajaro (54kg), whose previous run was a 14th in the Hawkesbury Cup, and he should be able to turn the tables on the weekend at Doomben.

Waller has also accepted for Kool Company, a four-year-old Jeremy stallion who finished five lengths away ninth to Leebaz at the Gold Coast last start in the Group 2 A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m).

The other best out of the Scone Cup backing-up in the Lord Mayor’s Cup is the John O’Shea-trained Malice, a five-year-old Teofilo gelding who finished a close third in a blanket-finish.

Along with Pajaro, drawn wide in barrier 12 on the weekend, there are two other last start winners in the Lord Mayor’s Cup line-up.

John Wilcock saddles-up last start Gold Coast winner over 1800m Court’s Star and Jumbo Prince jumps from the outside barrier (15) for Toowoomba’s Michael Nolan.

A four-year-old son of Outback Prince, Jumbo Prince scored his third win from 13 starts at the Doomben track a fortnight back taking out the Listed Members’ Handicap (1600m) from the inside alley on BTC Cup Day.

He faces a tougher task up to Group 3 company and WFA from a wider alley on Saturday, but is still a livewire chance with regular rider Jim Byrne retaining the mount.

Also coming off nice lead-up runs into the Lord Mayor’s Cup this season are the likes of the Robert Heathcote-trained Members’ Handicap fourth placed Lordag and Hawkesbury Cup runner-up Mighty Lucky who ran sixth still only a half-length off Pajaro in the Scone Cup.

The sole mare taking on the boys in the race meanwhile is the Gerald Ryan-trained Peace Force who was fourth in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown (1300m) two back before a 10th in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) on Scone Cup Day.
