One of six Group features on Doomben 10,000 Day this Saturday, the $125,000 Group 3 Programmed Property Services Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m) has attracted a bumper 20 nominees this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

The weight-for-age clash held over just longer than a mile was won last year by the Chris Waller-trained Strawberry Boy (2015) who improved on a sixth in the Listed Scone Cup (1600m) a fortnight earlier.

This season’s Scone Cup was held on May 13 and was won by Team Snowden’s Align five-year-old Pajaro in an upset as a $21 shot from the outside alley (16 of 16).

Pajaro is now entered for the Lord Mayor’s Cup at Doomben Racecourse looking for back-to-back wins.

Also coming off a top three run in the Scone Cup and featuring in the Lord Mayor’s Cup nominations this year are runner-up Amovatio and third placegetter Malice.

Amovatio represents last year’s Lord Mayor’s Cup winning trainer Waller, the five-year-old Al Maher gelding beaten just a neck last time out after previously winning the Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup (1600m) in late April.

Waller has also nominated for four-year-old Jeremy stallion Kool Kompany on Saturday, the imported galloper last seen running a disappointing ninth to Leebaz at the Gold Coast on May 7 in the Group 2 A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m).

Scone Cup third placegetter Malice meanwhile is prepared by Godolphin’s John O’Shea, the Teofilo five-year-old fifth prior to that in the Hawkesbury Cup, which could prove the form line to follow into Brisbane on Saturday.

Along with Pajaro the other last start winners entered for the Lord Mayor’s Cup are the John Wilcock-trained Gold Coast galloper Court’s Star and Jumbo Prince for Toowoomba trainer Michael Nolan.

A four-year-old Outback Prince stallion, Jumbo Prince ran third on Hollindale Stakes Day behind Coolring in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m) before his equal win at Doomben on May 14 in the Listed Members’ Handicap (1600m) with Rudy at the same track / distance he’s back over if accepted for on Saturday.

Other notable hopes entered for the clash include Rob Heathcote’s four-time winner at the track Hopfgarten, stablemate Lordag coming off a Members’ Handicap fourth, Hawkesbury Cup runner-up Mighty Lucky who won the Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m) in Sydney on Boxing Day and the consistent Sunshine Coast galloper Worthy Cause who has a strong Doomben record (8-2-2-1).
