Set to run as Doomben Race 5 at 2:41pm (AEST), this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Darley BRC Sprint (1350m) features a final field of 13 hopefuls.

Leading the BRC Sprint weights with 59kg and drawn wide out in gate 11 is Hussonet six-year-old Charmed Harmony who had the same kilos on his back for a 1400m win at Caulfield last time out.

Winner of the Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m) in the spring, the gelding also ran a credible sixth to The Quarterback as a 101/1 roughie in Flemington’s Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) this autumn.

He also finished runner-up to Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) favourite Black Heart Bart in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) in late March.

The other two last start winners in the mix are the Bjorn Baker-trained Coolring (8) and Religify (4) for Sydney’s top trainer Chris Waller.

Jeff Lloyd retains he ride on Sebring five-year-old Coolring who has been in top form this season including his Gold Coast win on May 7 in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m) from a wide barrier 13 of 16 draw.

The grey gelding should enjoy the better gate eight draw on the weekend as he shoots for back-to-back Queensland Black-Type victories, but does go up from 54.5kg to 56kg in the BRC Sprint.

Religify meanwhile has run top two in his four most recent runs and is drawn a treat in barrier for ace hoop James McDonald.

The Choisir five-year-old also drops notably in the weights down from the 60kg he carried to victory over the 1350m at Rosehill a fortnight ago to just 54.5kg on Saturday.

Last year’s BRC Sprint winner was the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Charlie Boy (2015) who went on to finish runner-up to Boban in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) over the same track / distance.

Team Snowden are represented in Saturday’s BRC Sprint field by Snippets Land who comes off a second to Coolring in the Prime Minister’s Cup.

His only other Doomben run to date was back in late February when narrowly beaten by Bewhatyouwannabe over the mile in the Listed Members’ Cup (1600m).

On a short seven-day turnaround and down in class is the Todd Willan-trained Artlee who backed up from a Group 2 Victory Staeks (1200m) second to finish a mid-field seventh to Malaguerra in last Saturday’s Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m).

He is up over more metres this weekend and should improve having won four from six over the distance to date and also comes back three kilos from last weekend to 55.5kg on Saturday.

Other notable BRC Sprint Handicap hopefuls this season include Bruce Hill’s returning Group 1 performer Teronado, recent Wagga Town Plate runner-up Sure And Fast and three-time winner at the Doomben track Trubia.
