Capacity 2016 The Roses Field Released

A capacity field of Queensland Oaks-bound three-year-old fillies face off in The Roses 2016 at Doomben Racecourse on Doomben Cup Day in Brisbane on the weekend.

The full 16 starters plus five emergencies are accepted for this season’s $175,000 Group 2 Magic Millions The Roses (2000m), the set weights feature to run as Doomben Race 6 at 3:21pm (AEST) on Saturday.

The best out of The Roses will back-up at Eagle Farm Racecourse on June 4 in the $500,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m), a double last completed Scarlett Lady (2011).

Heading futures Queensland Oaks odds at this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and running in The Roses field is the Bjorn Baker-trained Sydney raider Imposing Lady.

The gun daughter of Makfi has won her past three on the trot including her Queensland debut on May 7 in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m).

Saturday is her first look at further than 1800m, but she’s dominant favourite to handle the mile and a half in the Oaks and should have no issues over 2000m on the weekend despite a nasty barrier 18 draw for jockey Jason Collett to overcome.

The other best out of the Gold Coast Bracelet backing-up in The Roses this weekend include runner-up Self Esteem for Peter & Paul Snowden and the third placed Kebede prepared by Matthew Dunn.

Team Snowden have also accepted for another gun Oaks hope with Falkenberg in barrier six for Saturday.

The nicely-bred daughter of More Than Ready comes off a fourth in the Gold Coast Bracelet when defeated less than two lengths and is tipped to appreciate getting more metres under her legs in Brisbane.

Wearing the number one saddlecloth in The Roses meanwhile is the John O’Shea-trained Ambience who is equal second favourite in all-in Queensland Oaks for next month’s feature along with Falkenberg.

James McDonald retains the ride on the daughter of Street Cry who races for the first time since her brave second to Sofia Rosa in the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 9.

Ambience is drawn in barrier four for the weekend with the David Vandyke-trained Look To The Stars one on her outside on the back of a Sunshine Coast win on April 23 in the Listed Princess Stakes (1600m).

Sydney’s best Chris Waller has two The Roses acceptors with Sebring Sally (11) and Chandana (10) jumping alongside each other, the latter to be ridden by Hugh Bowman on the back of a 1900m second at Rosehill a fortnight back.

Other notable The Roses hopes include the Michael Moroney-trained Alaskan Rose, Queen Of Wands for dual Queensland Oaks winning trainer Clarry Conners and Gold Coast-trained Lyricist for Toby Edmonds coming off three straight wins.

See below for the full The Roses 2016 field, barriers and jockeys before heading to to back your favourite fillies this weekend and in next month’s Queensland Oaks at the right price!
