A capacity field of sixteen fillies will line up...
The opening race on The Goodwood Day programme at Morphettville Racecourse this Saturday is the National Stakes 2016 for two-year-olds, the final field and barriers for the set weights clash now out.
Kicking off the Adelaide card at 12:30pm (local), this year’s $120,000 Group 3 Quayclean National Stakes (1200m) has attracted a final field of just nine juveniles.
Among the final acceptors are three last start winners including the Symon Wilde-trained Ratta Tat Tat from Warrnambool.
The Host gelding has regular rider Steven Arnold travelling for the ride from barrier five with Ratta Tat Tat coming off a 1200m win in the wet at home on May 5 from a nasty barrier 13 of 13 draw.
Before that he finished second in the VOBIS Gold Plate (1000m) at Cranbourne, so is in good form and has winning ability over the distance.
Also from Victoria and coming off a win is Shane Nichols’ nicely-bred I Am Invincible filly I Am A Star who broke her maiden status at her second start on May 7 down the Flemington straight.
After a sixth on debut at Caulfield in April, the Mornington-trained I Am A Star enjoyed a smart 1.5 length victory over Sebring Dream a fortnight back and has Steven King aboard again from a gun gate two draw on Saturday for her first Black-Type assignment.
The last of the two-year-olds looking to string together two wins on the trot in the National Stakes on Saturday is the Richard Jolly-trained local Snippetson filly Bangs.
She jumps from barrier three with Jake Toeroek aboard for the third time on the trot after guiding her to a fifth in the Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050m) on March 5 and her last start 1006m win at Murray Bridge first-up on May 4.
Tested in Melbourne when fourth to Dalradian in an Inglis-restricted race at Moonee Valley last Cox Plate Day and fifth behind Concealer in a Group 3 over 1000m at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day in the spring, Bangs won her latest start as the odds-on favourite by over five lengths ahead of her return to stakes company.
A $51 outsider two weeks back at the track in the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m), Beneteau colt One Blink was far from disgraced crossing fifth to Moqla and returns stepping up in distance trying to break his maiden status at start number five in the National Stakes.
Other notable hopes including the Queen Adelaide Stakes third placed Good Journey filly Posh Journey for local horseman Gordon Richards and the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Fastnet Rock filly Phoenix Rising coming off a second at Caulfield on debut from April 23.
