Mackintosh Leads 2016 Rough Habit Plate Betting

Chris Waller’s Pins gelding Mackintosh is current favourite in Rough Habit Plate 2016 betting for the last at Doomben Racecourse this Saturday in Brisbane.

Due to run as Doomben Race 8 at 4:41pm (AEST), this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Mittys Rough Habit Plate (2000m) field is down to 13 runners after the early scratching of another Waller-trained hopeful Trafalgar (9).

Waller still has two chances in the race including the firming $3.40 top fancy Mackintosh drawn a treat in barrier four for jockey Blake Shinn.

The three-year-old comes off a win over 1500m at Hawkesbury and faces a distance test on BTC Cup Day seeing further than a mile for the first time.

He shoots for his fourth win at career start number six and is being kept safe in betting by the bookies.

Hot on the favourite’s heels at $3.60 in Rough Habit Plate markets this season and drawn one closer to the rails in barrier three is Cylinder Beach from the Eagle Farm stables of Desleigh Forster.

Showcasing gelding Cylinder Beach comes off back-to-back Doomben wins including the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1630m) on April 30.

He tracks towards a run over the mile and a half at Eagle Farm on June 11 in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) and also leads all-in betting for that Stradbroke Handicap Day feature paying $8.

The only other single-figure hope in Rough Habit Plate betting this season at $8 is Tap This in barrier two with Blake Spriggs continuing his association with the Tapit filly.

Peter & Paul Snowden train Tap This in Sydney, but she has had one run in Queensland when just under three lengths away ninth in the Gunsynd last time out from the same barrier two she’s drawn this weekend.

At more generous odds but still with genuine claims to win the last in Brisbane on Saturday are the likes of Waller’s O’Reilly colt and Group 3 placed Multifacets ($10), the Bryan Guy-trained Eagle Way ($11) from the Gold Coast and the in-form John O’Shea-trained Eschiele ($13) coming off back-to-back Sydney wins.
