Group 1 winners Delectation and Japonisme will be joined by three year old Counterattack in the first weight for age Group 1 sprint of the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Waller is looking for an improved performance from the out of form Delectation who hasn’t filled a place since winning the Group 1 $1m Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on November 7.

The premiership winning trainer has given Delectation two recent barrier trials for wins over 796m at Warwick Farm on April 29 and over 1050m at Randwick on May 6 and is hoping the four year old can replicate those performances in the BTC Cup on Saturday.

“He has been doing things wrong and he’s got to settle to be effective,” Waller said.

“We have given him two barrier trials to take the edge off him.

“I think the Doomben 10,000 will be the perfect race for him but he is ready for the BTC Cup.”

Three year olds Japonisme and Counterattack crossed the line together in the at their most recent outing with Japonisme getting the judge’s decision by the narrowest of margins to claim the major prize in the Group 2 $500,000 Arrowfield 3yo Sprint (1200m) at Randwick on the second day of ‘The Championships’ on April 9.

Counterattack is yet to salute at the highest level with his best Group 1 performance being a third to Japonisme in the Group 1 $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on the first day of 2015 four day Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Jockey Glyn Schofield was aboard Japonisme for his Coolmore Stud Stakes win and will be reunited with the Choisir gelding in the BTC Cup.

“Japonisme will have Glyn Schofield on for the first time since he won the Coolmore Stud Stakes, Counterattack will also go to the Group One,” Waller said.

Japonisme has had three more runs since his Coolmore Stud Stakes win with Craig Williams in the saddle when fifth to The Quarterback in the Group 1 $1.25m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington before Hugh Bowman took over the reins for his next two runs for a third in the Group 1 $500,000 Mitchelton Wines William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley followed by a win in the Arrowfield 3yo Sprint.
