Imposing Lass has justified her clear favouritism at Gold Coast Racecourse this afternoon; completing an impressive all-round effort to take out the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m).
Imposing Lass was undefeated in 2016 leading into the Gold Coast Bracelet, and did her chances of success no harm when jumping well and taking a good position on pace alongside No Pushover.
Offered a clear racing line upon arriving at the final straight, the Makfi filly kicked clear with 300m to run; maintaining a strong-enough sprint to withstand a late charge from Self Esteem; Kebede boxing on for a typically brave third.
Stable representative for trainer Bjorn Baker, Jack Bruce was pleased with Imposing Lass’s performance for a maiden black type win in the Gold Coast Bracelet, and credited jockey Jason Collet’s ride as the difference in the success.
“It was a good win, very happy,” Bruce said.
“She’s very push-button, Jason got her to settle again, it was a great ride and just kicked at the top of the straight and was too good.
“She’s a tough horse. Bjorn’s continued to step up the bar with her and she’s raised it and got there every time.”
Bruce confirmed the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) on Doomben 10,000 Day will figure as the next point of call for Imposing Lass ahead of her major target; the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m).
“The Roses now and then onto the Oaks, all going well,” he said.
“She’s a very bomb-proof horse, does everything right and we’re very happy with her.”
Imposing Lass produced several strong trials in the lead-up to her competitive debut, and immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow in placing second in the Adrian Devlin’s Maiden (1300m) and winning the Priced Contracting Maiden (1350m) in December, before returning to the paddock.
Resuming this time for success in the Ranvet BM67 (1400m) at Warwick Farm on April 6th, Imposing Lass repeated the dose in the Schweppes BM78 (1500m) in her only other start prior to her Gold Coast Bracelet triumph.
Punters who backed Imposing Lass to win the Gold Coast Bracelet with Ladbrokes.com.au have been paid out on generous $3.10 odds.
