2016 Australasian Oaks Day Scratchings & Track Report

The Adelaide Autumn Carnival reaches fever pitch today when Morphettville Racecourse hosts Australasian Oaks Day, highlighted by two talent-rich Group 1 feature races.

It is an overcast day in the greater Adelaide metropolitan area today, however the Morphettville track has retained a ‘Good 4’ rating following only 8mm of combined rain through the last seven days.

The 2016 Australasian Oaks Day action is set to get underway with the running of the Quayclean Handicap (2000m) at 12:05pm; culminating in the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) at 4:40pm.

Six of the eight races slated for Morphettville this afternoon will be contested under black type conditions, beginning with the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m) at 1:20pm.

A number of exciting sprinters will line up for the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m) including Nostradamus, Thermal Current and Super One, while some of the Adelaide Autumn Carnival’s standout three-year-olds are set to contest the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) at 2:40pm.

A talented and capacity field of sixteen three-year-old fillies has been confirmed for the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m); boasting runners from all corners of the country.

One of the most highly-anticipated editions of the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) will be contested at 4:00pm, when the likes of Griante, Sheidel, Don’t Doubt Mamma and Petits Filous lead a rich and capacity field to the barriers.

2016 Australasian Oaks Day will officially draw to a close with the running of the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes at 4:40pm local time.
