Closing the program as Morphettville Race 8 at 4:40pm (local) on Robert Sangster Stakes Day, this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) field is still at the capacity 18 starters with first emergency Indarra (8) coming in for early scratching Every Faith (18).

Heading the latest Queen Of The South Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.90 is the widely-drawn French Emotion (16) who Craig Williams rides for one of the country’s best trainers Chris Waller.

The four-year-old Snitzel mare might have a wide alley in the mile feature, but her lead-up form in Melbourne has been ultra-consistent including a last start second to Scarlet Billows – a runner in Saturday’s $400,000 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) – in the VOBIS Gold Staff (1400m).

This is her first look at further than 1400m, but it looks like that will suit the super-honest galloper who is yet to finish worse than third in her 11 career starts to date.

Hot on her heels in Queen Of The South Stakes betting this Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival is $4.40 second elect Metaphorical drawn two on her inside (14) and also coming off some eye-catching Victorian runs.

The now David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Dylan Thomas five-year-old was runner-up two back in the Group 3 Matron Stakes (1600m) and third to Miss Rose De Lago at Moonee Valley in late March’s Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m).

She has form over the distance (10-1-2-3) and is out to impress in her first run for her new stable.

The last of the single-figure fancies at $6.50 is market mover Into The Mist drawn nicely in gate five and coming off a win over the track and distance for Angaston horseman Tony McEvoy.

So will the three shortest priced mares run the trifecta or is there an upset Queen Of The South Stakes result on the cards this year from the likes of Mick Price’s flying four-year-old Mefnooda ($11) shooting for her third win on the trot, the Darren Weir-trained Hijack Hussy ($12) or stablemate Felicienne ($13) who won the Matron Stakes at Flemington last time out?

#10 Into The Mist ($6.50)

Going with McEvoy’s four-year-old daughter of Redoute’s Choice who won over the Morphettville mile last time out in mid-April against easier company. She rises in class, but has good form over the distance (4-1-2-0) and is drawn well in gate five for jockey Jason Holder who retains the ride. Her form is right, she impressed last run and only needs to improve in a deeper field.

#7 Metaphorical ($4.40)

A wide draw for Hayes & Dabernig’s recent stable acquisition Metaphorical, but she has time to overcome the alley and presents a genuine danger if her lead-up form in Melbourne is to go by. In her six latest runs going back to November she hasn’t finished worse than fourth, and comes off back-to-back Group placings over the mile.

#11 Rocket Commander ($21)

Big price offered for this in-form Court Command mare from the Strathalbyn stables of Wayne Francis & Glen Kent. Her last run produced a second to Zebulon in the Listed City of Adelaide Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks. She was beaten a big margin that day, but can finish closer here going up to a mile, which she has winning form over. The value.
