2016 Gold Coast Guineas Betting Tips

The Gold Coast Guineas 2016 is one of the major races running for A.D. Hollindale Stakes Day this Saturday in Queensland, betting tips for the three-years-old clash found below.

This year’s $125,000 Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) is the card closer at the Coast on the weekend due to jump at 4:20pm (AEST) on the eight-race program.

A capacity field will line-up in the Guineas this year, but despite the bumper line-up just two sit under double figures in the latest markets at Ladbrokes.com.au with Takedown ($3.40) and Santa Ana Lane ($3.50) fighting for favouritism.

The Gary Moore-trained Stratum gelding Takedown comes off a brave third to Japonisme in the Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) in Sydney while the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Santa Ana Lane rises in class for this on the back of a third in non-Black Type company at Randwick on April 16.

Outside the top two the next best in betting are Mick Dittman runner-up at the Sunshine Coast a fortnight back Sold for Song ($11) and the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Stratum filly Brigadoon Rise ($12) before the markets open right up.

So do the bookies have it right or will there be an upset Gold Coast Guineas result on Saturday from the likes of the super-consistent local Snitzel colt Big Tree ($17) or the Robert Heathcote-trained Mossmang gelding Privlaka ($16)?

#1 Takedown ($3.40)

The firming favourite really does look hard to beat. Barrier five is ideal and jockey Tim Clark has experience on the galloper when runner-up first-up in a Listed Randwick spring in early March. The Arrowfield third was very brave, Takedown beaten just over half-a-length by a proven Group 1 winner from Waller’s stable. He’ll relish an easier field here over the same distance and should salute for the punters.

#5 Privlaka ($16)

Like the price on this Brisbane-trained son of Mossman who has had just one luckless run at the track when ninth in the Group 3 Vo Rogue (1300m) on Boxing Day. He was still only three lengths off the winner and bounced back winning his next two starts in January. Last time out was fourth in the Mick Dittman from the outside alley (14 of 14), gets a smoother run here from a nice gate three draw and will also enjoying getting back up to 1200m.

#2 Big Tree ($17)

Another Mick Dittman placegetter at big odds for this weekend. Locally trained at the Gold Coast, Big Tree has won his sole start at the track and also saluted over the distance at Doomben two back. Ultra-consistent, on the improve getting back up to 1200m off the 1000m run that he likely found a touch sharp, and will be finishing right on their heels over the closing stages.
