One of five Group races on the Adelaide program for Saturday, this season’s $175,000 Group 2 Hughes Chauffeured Limousines Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) attracted a bumper 27 nominations.

The highest-rated of the early entries is the Weir-trained Street Boss mare Scarlet Billows who has subsequently been accepted for the $400,000 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) on Saturday.

Weir’s other most notable Queen Of The South Stakes entries is rising eight-year-old Elusive City mare Atlantis Dream who, if accepted, will carry the 58.5kg top weight.

Atlantis Dream is out to defend her Queen Of The South Stakes title having won the race 12 months ago carrying 55kg on the back of a lead-up second at Flemington over a mile.

She ran second at Flemington over 1700m in her lead-up into the Adelaide Group 2 this autumn, but rises notably in weights this season with penalties.

Weir’s other entries in his bid for back-to-back Queen Of The South Stakes wins are recent Matron Stakes winner over the Flemington mile Felicienne, Hussonet four-year-old Hijack Hussy and the up-in-class Jennio.

Another notable interstate raider in the mix is the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Metaphorical, a five-year-old daughter of Dylan Thomas coming off nice lead-up form in Melbourne.

She has had one previous Adelaide run when third to The Bowler in last year’s Group 3 RA Lee Stakes (1600m).

Two back she was runner-up to fellow Queen Of The South Stakes hopeful Felicienne in the Matron Stakes before her last star third to Miss Rose De Lago in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.

Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller is also in with an entry nominating for his in-form Snitzel four-year-old French Emotion.

From 11 career runs she is yet to finish out of the money and comes off a second to Scarlet Billows in the VOBIS Gold Distaff (1400m) at Caulfield from April 16.

Other notable hopes included Bendigo Gold Bracelet winner over Atlantis Dream from March Written, Tony McEvoy’s last start winner over the track and distance Into The Mist, her stablemate Sebring four-year-old Loveitt and last weekend’s City Of Adelaide Stakes runner-up Rocket Commander.

Prepared at Strathalbyn by Wayne Francis & Glen Kent, four-year-old Court Command mare Rocket Commander has had 10 starts at Morphettville’s main track but is yet to win.

She has placed second twice and also run third twice, and was beaten four lengths by the winner Zebulon on the Morphettville Parks course last Saturday in the black-type 1400m clash.
