2016 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes Betting Tips

The SA Sires’ Produce Stakes 2016 is one of the two feature races at Morphettville Racecourse this Saturday in Adelaide, betting tips for the two-years-old clash detailed below.

Set to run as Morphettville Parks Race 4 at 2:13pm (local), this season’s $120,000 Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) field features a dozen juvenile gallopers.

Sitting top of the latest SA Sires’ Produce Stakes betting markets through Ladbrokes.com.au paying $3.30 for the win is the Phillip Stokes-trained Smart Missile filly Smart Manoeuvre.

Top local hoop Dom Tourneur stays aboard the up-and-comer who is well-fancied to break her maiden status at her fourth career run on the back of a solid third to Tris in the Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) a fortnight back.

The next best fancied in the SA Sires’ Produce Stakes odds this Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival include Tony McEvoy’s nicely-bred daughter of 2011 Rosehill Guineas winner Jimmy Choux Sweet Varden ($5) and Hinchinbrook filly Flying Jess ($6.50) from the Caulfield stables of John Moloney.

So can the favourite Smart Manoeuvre post her first turf triumph or is there value tipping an upset result from the likes of the David Brideoake-trained Artie Schiller filly Outback Rain ($7) coming off a Pakenham win or Peter Jolly’s local Mossman gelding Morvada ($7) who ran fourth in the Breeders’ Stakes last time out?

#1 Morvada ($7)

A good barrier six draw for the local gelding who might not have run top three yet, but who is on the improve. He has had four runs all out of the money, but showed good promise as a $41 roughie in the Breeders’ Stakes when beaten just over one and a half lengths in the Group 3 from April 16. He looks like he’ll enjoy further so the step up to 1400m could be the key and jockey Jake Toeroek knows the youngster well.

#7 Smart Manoeuvre ($3.30)

Deserving favourite who has the right form lines leading into this, her second Group 3 test. Has barrier nine, which is only one wider than the gate she jumped from when third in the Breeders Stakes last time out. That followed a solid fourth over 1100m from gate 12 of 12, and she’s another that is likely to relish getting out over the 1400m on Saturday for one of the state’s most successful trainer – jockey combos.

#5 Sweet Varden ($5)

Sweet Varden has had a different lead-up, Saturday her first Black-Type assignment. She is well bred though and is ready to live up to her pedigree. On debut at Sandown in November she was under a length off the winner in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) before a third at Morphettville Parks first-up and her second over 1100m at the main track on April 2. Drops from 58kg to 55.5kg on Saturday, which will work in her favour, but is wide in gate 10 with Paul Gatt retaining the ride.
