Set to run as Doomben Race 7 at 3:47pm (AEST), this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Antec Gunsynd Classic (1630m) features 14 hopefuls with betting at Ladbrokes.com.au led by the Desleigh Forster-trained Too Good To Refuse ($4.60).

The progressive Rothesay colt has a wide barrier 12 draw to overcome, but the bookies are taking no chances after his last start win over 1625m at Toowoomba on April 16 with the same hoop as this weekend’s booking – Ryan Wiggins – in the saddle.

Four other single-figure hopes are in the markets including a stablemate to the favourite Cylinder Beach ($5) who is first-up in a nice gate four draw for jockey Michael Cahill and the early mover Tap This ($7.50 into $6.50) for Sydney’s Peter & Paul Snowden.

So will the best in betting be first past the post or is there an upset Gunsynd Classic result on the agenda in this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival lead-up?

#7 Miami Dade ($14)

Think there’s value galore in this 2016 Queensland Derby lead-up and like the chances of the John O’Shea-trained Sydney visitor Miami Dade. This Commands three-year-old has a gun mile record with two wins and a third from four previous starts at the distance he’s over again this weekend for his Brisbane debut. Was a narrow third last time out at Warwick Farm, is up in class but should be flying from nine on 57kg with set weights to suit at his gun distance.

#4 Eagle Way ($13)

Another nicely-priced hope with genuine claims. Prepared on the Gold Coast by Bryan Guy, this well-bred son of More Than Ready is undefeated over the mile with two wins from as many 1600m starts. He has winning form up to 1800m, is proven at Doomben and was brave on a Heavy track at home over 1400m a fortnight back. Two weeks between runs suits, the step back up to 1600m is ideal and barrier six also suits with Paul Hammersley also back aboard.

#1 Too Good To Refuse ($4.80)

Deserving favourite was strong to the line to win over this distance at Toowoomba last time out. He has a wide barrier however so needs to improve again stepping up in class. Still ticking plenty of boxes and could be hard to hold out late if he gets the right run.
