Redoute’s Choice Stakes Ideal for Lionhearted
Co-trainer David Hayes is pleased with the condition of Lionhearted, and is confident the classy two-year-old is poised for a maiden black type win in Saturday’s Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse.

Lionhearted has made only four competitive appearances at the races since debuting in February, but has more than stamped himself as a colt to follow through several strong performances, while yet to post a race win.
Hayes is confident a firm racing surface is the key to Lionhearted winning races and told AAP he is confident the conditions of the 2016 Redoute’s Choice Stakes and Caulfield will play into his strengths on Saturday.
“He ran a good second in a Slipper lead-up on top of the ground,” Hayes said.
“So if we get nice firm ground, he’ll be better.”
Hayes and co-trainer Tom Dabernig have included three runners in 2016 Redoute’s Choice Stakes nominations but revealed Lionhearted will likely only be joined in the race’s final field by Highland Beat.
“Lionhearted will run and probably Highland Beat,” Hayes said.
“Lionhearted’s work has been very good coming into it and Highland Beat is in great form.”
Trialling well in the lead-up to his competitive debut, Highland Beat produced a strong turn of foot late to finish a credible seventh in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude C&G (1100m) on February 13th, despite a tough run in transit.
Progressing to a close second behind Good Standing in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) on February 27th, the son of Fastnet Rock placed fourth in the Group 2 Pago Stakes Stakes (1200m) on March 12th but failed to see out the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) and finished sixth.
Highland Beat was unable to make anything of an impact in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 27th, but has since finished second in the Robert Taranto Handicap (1100m) and won the Toronado @ Swettenham Handicap (1200m).
