Neapolitan Ready for Dequetteville Stakes

Phillip Stokes is pleased with the condition of quality filly Neapolitan leading into her black type racing debut in Saturday’s Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville Racecourse.

Neapolitan has only made three competitive appearances at the races so far but has quickly stamped herself as a filly to follow; posting two impressive wins and a close second in her only other start.

Having drawn the rails and confirmed to be partnered by in-form hoop Craig Williams, Stokes told Racing Ahead he is no doubt Neapolitan can make a winning transition to black type company in the 2016 Dequetteville Stakes.

“She’s a really tough filly and the form around her is good,” Stokes.

“She’s become better with racing. Her last run she sort of came from behind and went through them, was entitled to be beaten but wasn’t.

“From a good barrier I think she’ll be there about.”

Trialling well in the lead-up to her competitive debut, Neapolitan jumped from the gates well in the Quayclean Plate (1000m) on November 14th and was settled on the heels of the race’s early leading.

Immediately responding when asked for an extra effort, the daughter of Denman produced a strong turn of foot to finish a close second.

Having immediately returned to the paddock, Neapolitan won a talent-rich Gawler trial by close to four lengths on February 22nd and franked that form when returning to competition for an impressive and dominant win in the Nadeem Handicap (1100m) on March 12th.

Drawn well in the barrier 5 in the Steve Davis Handicap (1000m) only one week later, Neapolitan experienced a tough run in transit following a slow start but more than displayed her class when mustering another impressive turn of foot to poke a nose ahead on the line.

Leading online bookie is currently offering the best 2015 Dequetteville Stakes, for which Neapolitan represents particularly good value at a quote of $13 for success or $3.90 to finish in the first three.
