2016 Schweppervescence Stakes Odds: Top Two Hard to Split

Set to jump at 4:13pm (local) as Morphettville Race 7 on RN Iwrin Stakes Day, this year’s $120,000 Listed Schweppervescence Stakes (1800m) is registered as the Auraria Stakes and features a capacity field of three-year-old fillies.

Two of those are very close in the latest Schweppervescence Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au with the Andrew Noblet-trained Victoria visitor Silent Sedition narrow $4.40 favourite over fellow Melbournite Sailing By ($4.80) from the Mick Price stables.

Drawn wide in barrier 13, War Chant filly Silent Sedition has time to overcome the alley when she looks to win for the third time in three starts.

Two back she made it two on the trot in the Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m) before a last start second to Bengal Cat in the $80,000 Ladbrokes Cash In Handicap (1600m) at Sandown-Hillside on April 9.

She drops from 58kg to 55kg under the set weights plus penalties conditions of Saturday’s Black Type, which will be her first run outside of Victoria.

The Price-trained Sailing By meanwhile is drawn better in barrier three with Jake Noonan retaining the ride on the daughter of Fastnet Rock who comes off a second to C’est Beau La Vie – at $16 to win again on Saturday in the rematch – in the Listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville.

She was defeated under a length that run, has experience at the track, is Group 2 placed and Group 1 performed so looks to tick plenty of boxes heading into the Schweppervescence Stakes.

Despite the bumper size of the 20-starter Schweppervescence Stakes field, just one other filly is under $10 for the win with Cry If I Want To out wide in gate 15.

The bookies are taking no chances with this fellow Price-trained filly, the daughter of Street Cry having just her second career start.

On debut at Pakenham on April 10 she won over 1400m by an impressive three and a half lengths, form she’s out to continue second-up on Saturday despite the wide draw and rise in class.

The next best fancied are the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Redoute’s Choice filly Concubine ($11), the widely-drawn Laelia Stakes fourth placegetter Beluga Blue ($12) for Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas, runner-up in the same lead-up race Comprende ($12) in gate one for local horseman Phillip Stokes and early market mover Artesian ($12).

John O’Shea saddles-up the Godolphin-raced Hard Spun filly Artesian whose last start was a second over 2000m at Caulfield on March 26 behind Cool Chap, a top hope for Monday’s $200,000 Listed VRC St Leger (2800m) at Flemington.
