Queen Of Wands Leads 2016 Princess Stakes Field

There are four Black Type Queensland races at the Sunshine Coast this Saturday including the Princess Stakes 2016 where Clarry Conners’ Sydney raider Queen Of Wands is one of the headline acceptors.

The first of the feature events on the card due to run as Race 5 at 2:28pm (AEST), this year’s $100,000 Listed Lion Dairy And Drinks Princess Stakes (1600m) field is at capacity with 18 starters plus four emergencies for the three-year-old fillies’ clash.

Drawn out in gate 12, but possibly into nine, is the in-form Not A Single Doubt filly Queen Of Wands in her Queensland debut.

The Warwick Farm-trained galloper won back-to-back races over 1350m and 1400m respectively in March before her brave last start third behind subsequent Frank Packer Plate champ He’s Our Rokkii in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 2.

Drawn one on her inside in gate 11 is another Sydney visitor, the David Vandyke-trained Look To The Stars who is looking to return to form as the highest-rated filly in the field.

The daughter of I Am Invincible is best known for her third to the since retired Press Statement in last June’s Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) in Brisbane, her four runs since all out of the money.

Coming off much better lead-up form is the Matthew Dunn-trained Redoute’s Choice filly Kebede from Murwillumbah in NSW.

She has won her past three on the trot starting at Grafton on March 6, followed by a 1400m win at the Gold Coast a fortnight later and her last start victory by over two lengths at Doomben over 1350m on April 9.

Kebede has veteran Queensland hoop Jim Byrne staying aboard on Saturday as she steps up in class at the Sunshine Coast from barrier 10, which could become seven if all the emergencies fail to gain a start.

Other last start winners in the mix include the Joe Pride-trained Sheilarized who won over the Wyong mile by 4.3 lengths on April 7 and Pretty Lucky who saluted at her home track at Toowoomba over 1650m at the start of the month.

Also worth a look at are the likes of Excites filly Mystic Opal who is two-from-four at the Sunshine Coast track, the lightly-raced Lyricist from the Gold Coast who won over 1200m on April 9 at home by two and a half lengths, and the rails-drawn O’Reilly’s Angel from Warwick Farm who took out a 1500m Goulburn race on April 11 from the outside barrier 13.
