2016 Mick Dittman Plate Field: Wicked Intent Draws Wide

Bringing the Sunshine Coast racing action to a close as Race 8 at 4:27pm (AEST), this year’s $100,000 Listed IGA Sunshine Coast Mick Dittman Plate (1000m) has attracted a capacity field of three-year-olds.

There are 18 confirmed starters plus one emergency, the Stuart Kendrick-trained Graceville (13), after the second spare Sangiovese (19) was scratched early.

Top wear the number one saddlecloth is the stakes winning Wicked Intent prepared by former jockey-turned-trainer Munce.

The son of Wicked Style is Group 2 placed having finished second behind fellow Mick Dittman acceptor Blueberry Hill in the Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben last May.

Two back he won over 1050m at the same Brisbane track first-up before a fifth to Casual Choice in a 1100m sprint at Doomben on April 2 he’s out to improve on this weekend despite his wide gate 16 draw for jockey Jeff Lloyd to overcome.

Also drawn wide for this season’s Mick Dittman Plate are the likes of the Rex Lipp-trained In His Stride (17), Gold Coast-based Haradasun gelding Taillevent (18) and the returning Robert Heathcote-trained Privlaka who will jump from the outside barrier.

Prepared by Brisbane’s best, Mossman gelding Privlaka won two on the trot last time in including over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast in mid-January.

He has trilled once since his last start Doomben win over 1350m, finishing third to La Dolce Vita over 850m at Deagon on April 12 and has Glen Colless aboard first-up on the weekend.

Coming up trumps with barrier two is the super-consistent Peter Balzen-trained Big Tree who has Brad Steward aboard again after the duo saluted over 1200m at Doomben on May 19.

Yet to race at the Sunshine Coast, nicely-bred Snitzel colt Big Tree has finished worse than second just twice over his nine career runs to date and drops from 59kg last time out to 57kg at set weights on Saturday.

Also coming off a Doomben win is Matthew Dunn’s Fastnet Rock gelding Perfect Dare who saluted over 1050m on April 9 in his first run since finishing only 1.6 lengths off Madotti at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m).

The inside run on Saturday belongs to Tony Gollan’s Real Saga filly Secret Saga who jockey Tegan Harrison will ride from gate one first-up.

Winner of the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) two back, Secret Saga failed to impress last start when eighth in the Gold Edition Plate but is out to atone here.

Gollan has also accepted for Jet Spur gelding Jetsonic who won at the track first-up in early March before two Doomben runs when fifth to Big Tree and fourth to Perfect Dare who he faces off against again in the Mick Dittman.

Other notable hopes in the mix include Trevor Miller’s improving Real Good, Mode Plate and Gold Edition Stakes runner-up La Dolce Vita, and the undefeated Tony Sears-trained filly Blue Desert Moon shooting for her fifth win from as many career starts.
