This Saturday in Adelaide four Black Type races highlight the RN Irwin Stakes Day action at Morphettville Racecourse including the Dequetteville Stakes 2016 where Moshki shoots for back-to-back wins at the track.
Running as Morphettville Race 5 at 2:53pm (local), this year’s $100,000 Listed MAC Drink Driving? GROW UP Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) has attracted a final field of 11 two-year-old fillies.
Drawn a treat in barrier three with apprentice Emily Finnegan to ride is the Terry & Karina O’Sullivan-trained daughter of Moshe from Stawell, Moshki.
She made her South Australian debut last start on March 5 in the Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050m) and came away with a blistering four and three-quarter length win as a $20 roughie.
On the weekend she is looking to repeat that form with the same hoop from a better barrier stepping out over the same track / distance in the Dequetteville Stakes.
There is a total of five last start winners in the mix this year aside from Moshki, including the undefeated Henry Dwyer-trained If Not Now When.
A wide barrier 10 draw has presented a challenge to the dual winning daughter of Artie Schiller prepared at Caulfield who won at Bendigo on debut before a last start win as the odds-on favourite over 1000m at Cranbourne on April 1.
Drawn better with barrier one is the local Phillip Stokes-trained Denman filly Neapolitan who shoots for her third win on the trot after wins over 1100m at Morphettville and 1000m at Morphettville Parks in March.
She has a gun record over Saturday’s distance (3-2-1-0) and has champion interstate hoop, the internationally performed Craig Williams over for the ride.
Stokes has also accepted for nicely-bred Exceed And Excel filly Serenely Discreet who won her debut on January 30 before a trial win at Morphettville Parks over 1000m on April 15 leading up to her return on Saturday.
Drawn one on Neapolitan’s outside in gate two with Matthew Neilson to ride is the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained daughter of Exceed And Excel Moqla who saluted at the track / distance by over two lengths at the start of the month.
Rounding out the last start winners looking to extend their success with a Dequetteville Stakes victory on the weekend is the Gordon Richards-trained Posh Journey who comes off a 1050m victory at Balaklava from April 13.
Having her first run since a failed 13th behind Extreme Choice in Caulfield’s Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back in late February is the Robbie Griffiths-trained Areti.
She won at Moonee Valley on debut before being outclassed in the Blue Diamond, but should be better placed in the Adelaide stakes race on Saturday with Luke Currie to ride from a midfield gate six draw.
Other notable hopes include the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Extra Olives with the outside alley to overcome, Sebring filly Motown Lil for Robert Smerdon and Helmara who is a daughter of 2011 Caulfield Guineas winner Helmet.
