2016 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes Betting Odds & Tips

The first of two Group races on the W.A.T.C. Derby Day card at Ascot Racecourse this weekend sees the two-year-olds face off in the WA Sires’ Produce Stakes 2016, betting tips and the latest odds for which are found below.

Set to run as Ascot Race 6 at 3:48pm (local), this year’s $200,000 Group 3 Auto Classic BMW W.A. Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) field features 12 juveniles.

Leading the latest WA Sires’ Produce Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au at $2.25 is Whispering Brook, the undefeated Simon Miller-trained Hinchinbrook filly shooting for her fifth win from as many starts this weekend.

She has had three runs for as many wins at the Ascot track she returns to on Saturday looking for a fourth black-type victory and third in Group company.

Winner of the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) – Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) double, Whispering Brook is up over the 1400m for the first time and her and regular rider Peter Knuckey are drawn a treat in barrier three.

Close second favourite and the WA Sires’ Produce Stakes market mover backed in from $2.70 to $2.60 is the rails-drawn Saul’s Special, Perth’s leading jockey William Pike booked for the ride.

The Daniel Morton-trained Charge Forward colt has had just the two runs to date and was last seen running third to Saturday’s favourite Whispering Brook in the Karrakatta Plate, which looks the form line to follow into the rematch over the extra 200m.

There is just one other youngster at single-figures for the win with the super-consistent Spangled Impact at $4.80 for local trainer Mike Santrich.

The Demerit filly won her first two career starts at the track last spring, returning to run second behind Whispering Brook in both the Gimcrack and Karrakatta.

So will one of the top three in betting get the job done or is there value tipping an upset WA Sires’ Produce Stakes result from the likes of the Simon Miller-trained Manhattan Rain gelding Speeding Comet ($14) or even Daniel Pearce’s progressive son of Sebring Rising Sea ($21)?

#8 Whispering Brook ($2.25)

Hard to see the winning streak of Whispering Brook end just yet. This filly is on fire and doing everything right as a two-year-old. Her form is too hard to ignore, and she’s had zero issues at the Ascot track where three of her four career wins have been achieved. Her class is proven by the two Group victories to date, including the one and three-quarter length success in the Karrakatta Plate at the start of the month. Two weeks between runs, looking like she’ll handle the 1400m and a gun barrier draw all stack up for this top fancy.

#9 Spangled Impact ($4.80)

Tipping the Karrakatta Plate form and have tipped the same quinella here with Spangled Impact, who is yet to run worse than second in four career stars, to be the bridesmaid again. This locally trained filly has been chasing Whispering Brook home all season and loves the Ascot track, so if she also loves the step up in distance she’s a definite danger drawn in barrier seven after a tough run from wide last time out.

#1 Saul’s Special ($2.60)

Outside of the fillies, if a colt wins it will be this lightly-raced improver from the inside alley with Pike aboard. A winner on debut, the son of Charge Forward comes off the Karrakatta Plate third, and we’ve gone for the exact same trifecta for Saturday’s rematch. He’ll get the run of the race and if is on the rise, is a credible chance to turn the tables as the market money on him suggests.
