2016 All Aged Stakes Nominations Feature Four for Waller

Chris Waller will chase his 15th Group 1 win of the season having nominated for four from his stables in the All Aged Stakes 2016 at Royal Randwick Racecourse this weekend.

One of two elite levels on the Saturday race program, this year’s $600,000 Group 1 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) has attracted 13 early entries.

The All Aged Stakes nominations for the weight-for-age classic have been extended until 11am on Tuesday morning, but of the current hopefuls Waller has four in the mix.

Leading Waller’s contingent for a second All Aged Stakes win to add to that he took out with Danleigh in 2009 are Kermadec and Press Statement.

Winner of the 2015 Doncaster Mile, Kermadec went to defend his title last time out on April 2.

Things went amiss for the gun Teofilo stallion however, the four-year-old failing to beat home any other runner when 15th and beaten 17 lengths by star stablemate Winx.

He pulled up with issues, but Waller is confident Kermadec has made a full recovery and will give him a chance to atone this weekend with a possible Royal Ascot bid in England calling later in the year.

Also looking to earn a trip to Royal Ascot to target June’s Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) is Caulfield Guineas winning colt Press Statement.

The three-year-old son of Hinchinbrook won the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) first-up before runner-up in that race, Le Romain, turned the tables and scored the narrow upset over Press Statement in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).

Press Statement was last seen running third to Winx in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m), a race Kermadec also ran second in before his Doncaster failure.

Waller’s two other possible All Aged Stakes runners this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival are imported stallion Kool Kompany last seen running second last when eighth to The United States in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) on March 19 and rising eight-year-old Strawberry Boy who hasn’t run since his Magic Millions Cup second to Lucky Hussler on the Gold Coast in January.

The other highest rated hopeful in the mix this season is Darren Weir’s Perth expat Black Heart Bart.

The five-year-old son of Blackfriars has had two Melbourne runs for Weir this season including the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) second behind The Quarterback when beaten only a neck down the Flemington straight.

He then posted his 11th career win in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield ahead of his maiden Sydney run in Saturday’s All Aged Stakes.

The other last start winner nominated for the Group 1 is the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Magnus four-year-old Malaguerra.

The gelding has won his past four starts on the trot dating back to Melbourne Cup Day last November, including Rosehill’s Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) on March 26.

The other headliners are Gai Waterhouse’s classy filly English, the three-year-old daughter of Encosta De Lago last seen running third to Chautauqua in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on Doncaster Day, and fourth in the same Group 1 lead-up Our Boy Malachi.
