Day 2 of Sydney’s ‘The Championships’ runs at Royal Randwick Racecourse today, Saturday April 9, and below is the full track report and official scratchings from the autumn card.

Racing kicks off at Randwick today at 11:30am (AEST) with the $150,000 Listed Fernhill Handicap (1600m) for the two-year-old milers and continues through until Race 10 closes the card with the $300,000 Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) jumping at 5:15pm (AEDT).

Four elite level races highlight the program starting with Race 6 (2:35pm) for the three-year-old fillies in the $1 million Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m), a full field of 14 to face off with the two emergencies now officially out.

The Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) over the two miles has $2 million in prize money on offer and the original 11 starters are all in the mix including the dominant Chris Waller-trained trio of Libran, Who Shot Thebarman and the defending champion Grand Marshal.

The Queen Of The Turf Stakes runs this year as the $1 million Group 1 The Coolmore Legacy Stakes (1600m) and after originally drawing above capacity, only 15 will run after the withdrawal of #2 Politeness as well as the two emergencies – Supara and Asinara.

Finally the marquee race of the day is scheduled for Race 9 at 4:35pm with the $4 million Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) where hoof issues have ruled out Our Ivanhowe, giving Awesome Rock a shot as the first emergency who now gets a run.
