2016 Chairman’s Handicap Betting Tips & Selections

One of the key races for the autumn stayers is Saturday’s Chairman’s Handicap 2016, betting tips for the Royal Randwick clash run on Day 1 of ‘The Championships’ detailed below.

There are nine in the mix for this year’s $300,000 Group 2 Schweppes Chairman’s Handicap (2600m), which is due to run as Doncaster Mile Day race three at 1:20pm (AEDT).

Of the runners the best fancied in the latest Chairman’s Handicap odds at Ladbrokes.com.au – home of Odds Boost – is the Chris Waller-trained top weight Libran.

He carries 58kg from gate four, Brenton Avdulla continuing his association with the imported five-year-old who chases his third win on the trot here following a good two length success in the Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m) at Rosehill on March 19.

Libran goes up in the weights on the weekend, but is still the one to beat according to the bookies as he heads towards a run in Saturday week’s Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) over the two miles.

The next best in Chairman’s Handicap betting this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival are the rails-drawn Destiny’s Kiss ($5.50) for Joe Pride, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Café Society ($6.50) coming off a Manion Cup second and stablemate Dee I Cee ($7.50) who was originally raced in New Zealand.

So can Libran handle the kilos and salute for the punters or is there an upset Chairman’s Handicap result from the likes of the John Thompson-trained Group 2 winner in Europe Auvray ($9) or Godolphin’s smart Medaglia D’Oro mare Algeria ($13)?

1st

#1 Libran ($2.20)

The favourite gives the weight away but looks hard to beat on way to the 2016 Sydney Cup. Waller knows how to train a good staying type, proven by his Sydney Cup quinella last autumn, and this horse put the writing on the wall with his last start win that showed off his good turn of foot.

2nd

#2 Auvray ($9)

Like the price on offer for Tommy Berry’s mount who will be hitting peak third-up after two unplaced runs. Is proven up to 3000m and so the extra metres will suit and should see this French import finally hit his straps with a maiden top three run down under.

3rd

#3 Destiny’s Kiss ($5.50)

Power Of Destiny seven-year-old is the veteran of the field but looked in good form on March 12 running just over a length away fourth to Sir John Hawkwood in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m). The step up in distance here works to his advantage with the galloper boasting winning form up to 3200m. Won the Gosford Cup in January with 57.5kg and the Australia Day Cup with 59kg, so with 57kg here from barrier one in a small field is right in the mix.
